The Young Avengers
Another MCU set-up that has finally become complete is the Young Avengers. Now they have many storylines to choose from but I think (very biasedly) that they should of course go with Children’s Crusade (because that would center on Wanda and I always think everything should center on Wanda). That said we did just talk about Secret Invasion and in a tie-in series the Young Avengers team up with the Runaways and are the first to respond to a Skrull Invasion in New York, so perhaps it will be very easy to get all these kids together.

Secret Wars
The next storyline that has been setup and confirmed in the MCU is Secret Wars. This storyline comes to the big screen from a 1980s comic book run and it is no wonder that this will be the final event of Phase 5 because in the comics it is a massive cosmic event with an astounding amount of crossover titles. With 32 issues worth of crossover across 10 different titles Secret Wars is one of the biggest Marvel comic book events to date as well as one of the most impactful. None of the major crossovers we have had since would have really happened without Secret Wars and it all came to pass because Mattel needed a massive event in order to justify the production of super-hero toys. The name Secret Wars was chosen because both wars tested positive in focus groups, after a few other things were decided based off of child responses the writers of Marvel then had to create a story around a toy line.

Adam Warlock
Our next cosmic entity worth discussing is Adam Warlock. A character we know for a fact that we will see in the MCU, upon our next journey with the Guardians of the Galaxy. Now he has already appeared in the MCU by all technicalities in the second Guardians of the Galaxy movie and it is confirmed that we will see more of him in this next outing.

The Last of Us
So my husband and I started watching HBO Max’s latest production, The Last of Us. All I knew going into it was that it was based off a video game that I watched him play about 10 minutes of and that it was about zombies, a part of feature creatures that I never liked. Zombies are gross and weird and there is no consistency with their lore and I think writers that center them try too hard to be interesting and simply end up being lazy. That said, The Last of Us got me with solid scientific backing. As well as having a truly amazing cast that I love from their other projects. Pedro Pascal was a wonderful casting choice and has had my heart from Game of Thrones, Bella Ramsey whom I also love from Game of Thrones and the real love of my life Anna Torv, perhaps the hottest woman alive and my bestie from Fringe. All in all the story and the casting was enough to get me to watch it.

Revisiting You
So I’ve actually watched the first two seasons of You multiple times, I remember binging the entire first season in 1 day. Now obviously the quality of these seasons fluctuates as they all actually have very different tones. That said, I just wanted to revisit this show before we get season 4.

Knives Out: Glass Onion
One movie that we didn’t get to see in theaters but finally watched on Netflix is Knives Out: Glass Onion. The first thing that comes to my attention is the insanely amazing casting in this movie. Leslie Odom Jr. is my favorite human on the planet, having him and Kathryn Hahn in the same movie was an incredible experience.

Oscar Nominations
Oscar nominations for 2022 films have officially come out and of course I am going to stick my two cents in for who I think is going to win and who I think should win. We won’t talk about every category but we will talk about all of the major ones.

The Fableman's
The Fableman’s was one of my most anticipated films of 2022, I think that the Covid lockdown did something to filmmakers and the industry as whole. We were all inside for a year and that caused an outpouring of art from authors and musicians but filmmakers were stuck. So after we were all released and allowed back into the world there was all this pent up creative energy from filmmakers and that gave us a wave of films about art and film and love. That wave gave us movies like Armageddon Time, Babylon and yes, The Fableman’s.

Broker
The Broker represents peak independent cinema, it seemed to slip through the cracks of 2022. In a year that was filled with very loud movies, The Broker slips through with a beautiful story and delicate character work that is rare to see in a world of superheroes and spies.

Representation for Representations Sake
Something that has begun to change the scape of Hollywood is the push for representation. Both on the screen and behind the camera, on the small screen and the big screen more roles are being created for, portrayed by and written by marginalized groups. Allowing for a richer and more realistic reflection of the world around us. However some of these pushes for representation are simply bad…and they teach us that representation for representation's sake is not a good thing.

Ranking Films of 2022
Okay so 2022 ended up being an amazing year for movies, I’ve decided to rank them, now this list isn’t actually in any particular order. All movies with the same number rating are tied with each other. Most movies that got a half a point off because of rewatchability, that said you have to be in a very specific moon to rewatch those films and therefore they got a slightly lower ranking. Now for context the only films in history that I have ever given a 10/10 are the Lord of the Rings films (all of them), and The Princess Bride. Now all I think this list proves is that I need to raise my standards, which is really saying something because I am very specific and very judgy about my movies, so I am in fact going to be a little harsher going into 2023.
