The Colors We Bleed

A work in my series "Between Lines and Colors - A Writer and his Palette"

My Painting

Yellow and Blue

From where came that shoe?

The lace is open

Why should he lose his life?

Or is it a promised token

That war will end, is there a waiting wife?

.

Red and Green

No one has seen

The cruelty in lost blood

Connecting us in what has been

Let Freedom break the fence like a flood

.

Brown and Red

No bombers, don’t be scared

Just peaceful creatures of the air

.

Be proud and open your hair

The land is your source

So willingly giving you daily bread

No one should take it, it’s yours

The words love and freedom the world said

Let bloom like cherry in the spring

Children and parents in chorus sing!

Authors Note:

The Colors We Bleed is a poetic and visual reflection on war, loss, and the fight for freedom.

Inspired by Ukraine, the poem and accompanying painting depict a landscape shaped by conflict—golden fields divided by bloodstained barriers, an abandoned boot symbolizing those lost, and birds soaring in a sky longing for peace.

Through words and colors, this piece speaks to the resilience of the human spirit and the hope that love and freedom will bloom again.

This poem is part of my ongoing project, Between Lines and Colors - A Writer and his Palette, which explores the intersection of written expression and visual art. The accompanying artwork for this poem is an original piece, created with oil pastels on paper, measuring 29.5 cm x 21 cm.
