The Art In My Wardrobe

How I Display Some Of My Music Posters

Art By Chris Morton

Introduction

As a teenager, I would put posters of my favourite bands on my bedroom wall, and I could put anything on there which took my fancy. For some reason, now I don't do that, it's all proper art, so have I grown up?

I deny that I have grown up, and I had a couple of posters I wanted to display, so this is what I did.

The music I have included is the excellent "I Know What I Like (In Your Wardrobe)" by Genesis, which is appropriate given the subject of this article.

The Art In My Wardrobe

Wardrobes are where we keep our clothes, but we are in there every day (well, I am), and the sides and doors inside the wardrobe are just featureless laminate.

I had two posters which I didn't want to leave rolled up; I wasn't going to frame them, but I did want to put them somewhere I could see. Just thinking of that, maybe I could use my garage walls going forward, but not for now.

1:) F**k Dance Let's Art

That's the one you see in the main image. It fitted on the inside of my wardrobe door.

It was designed by Chris Morton, album cover designer, art director and artist, and I spoke with him at his exhibition in Newcastle that I attended with my friend Katie and I documented here:

I bought a copy of th eposter after speaking with Chris and later did this interview with him

2:) The Trojan Horse

"The Trojan Horse" by Lionel Barry Agar

On a trip to York, I visited Rebound and noticed this Beatles poster on the wall. The shop owner asked if I would like a free copy, so I said yes, and also got one for my great friend Keith, who is a huge Beatles fan, although I have still to give it to him.

This is the story of that poster:

I wondered where I could put this, because of the width, then thought it could stretch along the back of the wardrobe, as you can see below.

Conclusion

They are the only two posters in my wardrobe at the moment, but there is room for more.

As I say, I don't know anyone else who does this..... yet!!

Wardrobes are like little rooms why not decorate them with whatever. I liked te Beatles poster.

I used to fill my walls and my ceiling with posters as a child, maybe I will start filling my wardrobe with them too, and I appreciate the fascinating story of your Beatles poster, thanks, Mikey!

  • I only had my own room when I was 21, that too because my grandma passed away and I took over her room. By that age, I had already lost interest in putting posters on my wall. But it makes me happy to see what you're doing
