Jets' Ulbrich: Adams and Wilson could be the next Rice and Owens combination.
The New York Jets' acquisition of Davante Adams is far more than just a move to boost the 2024 playoffs. Interim coach Jeff Ulbrich hopes that this Pro Bowl wide receiver can not only help the team in the playoff race but also become an important guide for young player Garrett Wilson's growth. Ulbrich said through the team's official channels on Tuesday, "I was fortunate to be with Terrell Owens and Jerry Rice in San Francisco and witnessed Jerry teaching TO everything. That was an unforgettable experience. Now, Davante's arrival is like Jerry's influence on TO back then. He can bring valuable experience and knowledge to Garrett and all our wide receivers. Davante has been playing at an elite level for many years, and his chemistry with Aaron Rodgers will also bring new vitality to the Jets." In 2000, Ulbrich was a rookie defender. That was Rice's 16th and final season in San Francisco. Rice and Owens played together for five years (1996 - 2000). Eventually, both of them were inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame (Rice in 2010 and Owens in 2018). NFL power rankings, Week 7: The Ravens enter the top three, while the Lions drop in rankings due to Aidan Hutchinson's injury. Wilson has been Rodgers' top target this season. In the past two games, this player in his third season of his career has caught 21 passes out of 33 attempts, with a total of 208 yards and two touchdowns. Wilson is the only player with more than 20 receptions since Week 5. He is also the first Jets player since Brandon Marshall in Weeks 16 - 17 of 2015 to have more than 100 receiving yards and more than one touchdown reception in consecutive games. The 31-year-old Adams is still an elite player, with rushing yards exceeding 1,100 yards for four consecutive seasons. This veteran's outstanding performance outside the line of scrimmage and his ability to support the quarterback at any time make him stand out among many wide receivers. Although Wilson praised Rodgers for helping him master some complex skills in the game, learning from this three-time All-Star wide receiver Adams will undoubtedly be of great help to this emerging talent. There is no doubt that Wilson himself is a star, but playing with another elite weapon will make the Jets' offense even stronger, even if they don't have the same offensive tempo. With Adams joining Wilson and Allen Lazard, the New York Jets are beginning to think about the future of Mike Williams. Peter Schrager of "Good Morning Football" reported on Tuesday that Williams will be traded. "I think in the next few days we will figure out how to put these pieces together," Ulbrich said when asked about Williams. "This is an exciting and good question because we have many different players with different skills who can do many things. So Todd (Downing) and his staff will have some sleepless nights because of these good questions."
