We Are All Story Tellers

As Well As Vocal Creators

An AI Creation By The Author

Introduction

This has come about because I try and support other creators by raising and commenting on their work. It is seldom that I drop in and don't leave a comment, because I want them to know that they have been seen and appreciated by someone.

Some don't need any input from me but sometimes I will read an older story and I will be the first to leave a comment, which slightly saddens me.

And that got me thinking a bit more about our situation.

How Do We Support Ourselves And Others And Keep Writing

When we write, we can publish on Vocal and then our work is available for the world to read but that only happens if it catches a reader's eye. Just publishing on Vocal is not enough, but luckily we have subscriptions and Facebook Groups where we can share our work.

Most Facebook groups just allow stories to be dropped on the main feed, which means that eventually they are replaced by newer stories.

VIM has a few thread posts to recommend readers and congratulate Top Story, Leaderboard, and Challenge winners which means those stories stay in the public eye for longer.

The Vocal Social Society has many threads such as poetry and one that features stories from specific communities. This was how the group was envisioned by it's main lights Lesley Anne and Caroline Jane.

If you see a story that is worth a read and has not many hearts and comments share it in one of the groups and the creator may get some benefit and encouragement because theire work has been shared.

Then there is the Vocal "Raise Your Voice" bi-weekly post. I usually share five stories and let the creators know I have shared their stories and quite often that results in a Top Story for the creator.

Sometimes we may feel we have nothing to write about but Vocal has loads of prompts that you can use here:

Conclusion

To get noticed we have to write and publish, but we also have to share, but if you read others' work then the chances are they will read, and if you are lucky, share yours where they can be noticed by others.

So keep writing, keep sharing and keep supporting each other and build each other up.

Thank you so much for reading

Always good to point things out. Reciprocation is also needed. I've read 30 Vocal stories today, we'll see what the law of averages returns eh.

That was so well said, Mike. I have been lucky that only a few stories I have written have not received any likes, and some have only received one or two from loyal supporters. I have left a couple of links on the VIM Facebook, but I am not sure I am doing it properly because I never seem to find them again. Another comment I would make is that if you follow a few people, and especially if it is poetry, it is difficult to leave a comment that means anything for every single poem, but we will keep trying because, as you say, we need to support each other.

  • Great, encouraging words, Mike.

  • Thank you so much to you and all the other admins of those Facebook groups, for everything that you guys do!

I love reading and commenting on other peoples work. It's such a small and easy way to encourage other authors. Thanks for putting all this in words!

You are quite the encourager. You are definitely writer/creator that cares for others. Good job.

I like this sentiment and advice, however there are still a few with false comment. We are not asking for a long comment but one that maybe lets us know you truly read the work. A shout out to the Facebook gurus who keep them up and running. It is a good reminder to read as well as dropping your work . Over all you have a great message to share and for that I thank you.
