Positive Words

Trying To Write Positively

Introduction

I sometimes have a problem writing, because although almost everything I see or discover gives me a reason to write, I often pull back because I see the subject as not uplifting or positive enough.

If something bad happens, makes me sad, or annoys me, I sometimes want to shout about it, but I pull myself back because I do not want to be whiney, depressed, or upset readers.

Also, I shy away from short-form poems and fiction, stories under three hundred words, Haiku, Senryū (川柳), and Acrostic although when I do I usually add something to make it a little more challenging for myself.

So What Do I Do?

Well today I decided to do a blog post on the book I am reading, which you can check out here:

That was just a few words on the latest chapters, then after posting that I felt able to tackle a serious piece on the Labour election victory that I shared on Vocal.

Now I feel ready to write some fiction, or take part in an unofficial writing Challenge, there are a few here

Then there are the Vocal Resources that have thousands of ideas for story writing, although I usually wait for whatever my mind will come up with. I also look for live unofficial challenges to add to the link above.

Vocal has only one challenge live at the moment and that is about to expire. I think it will be very amusing if we get an email about Live Vocal Challenges and there are no Live Vocal Challenges, maybe that could be a story.

Conclusion

I see a lot of sad and depressing writing on Vocal, and writing is a good way to get these feelings out of your system.

Most of the time I push these things away until I can get something going that might make people smile, laugh or be happy.

This is the way that I create, and I know that is not for everybody.

If I can give another creator, an idea or make them feel they are doing the right thing, then I am succeeding.

That will make me happy.

The fact that you have read this also makes me happy, so thank you very much.

I hear you on this. We should always get those emotions out in healthy ways, but be careful about what we ‘infect’ others with. I try to stick to an 80/20 rule of thumb…. Because when we share our deep pain and suffering - we actually can help others to feel that their pain is validated…. (Those who have suffered in similar or relatable ways) And validate our own…. Because sometimes we really do need that from an outside source, when wounds are deep. When relationships deeply wounded us, it really does take the love of others to really facilitate healing. The healing has to be completed within the context of a relationship- even if that is an online community! Isn’t that the summary of what we are all truly doing here? Being each others support, building each others confidence and making each other feel that we are indeed valuable in this world… ? It’s all about keeping that impossible balance line between trusting our independence and capabilities, not over using the energy of others in the community….but sharing when we really need to…. Don’t be scared of releasing your grief Mike… it corrodes the inside of the human body when left in there too long 🫶🏻

You are absolutely right positive thoughts do it all the time, Sure there are times when you write an emotional piece or poetry but that is understandable, It is important to keep upbeat. Hey, that just made me think. Imagine a line of Vocal Media T-shirts in various colors printed with Important to Keep Upbeat

Good article. We all have our own ways to get us writing and your suggestions are great.

  • Life happens . Life is real. Life as a human is full of expressions of feelings of laughter, tears, pain, healing. Don't worry be happy a song of the 80s always made me happy but then I asked everyone, how about the times we should have been not so happy and written about the good, the bad , the ugly instead. To be happy without sadness and pain is,not being human. To ask questions and fight for humanity and equality stirs up feelings of relief that I did my part to write about grief , pain and healing because these are human qualities . Right now to fight for freedom in America is extremely important as we have been taken over by the ultra rich, the Heritage Foundation , the Federalist Society of people who do not believe in equality and they produce chaos and destruction everywhere they walk and women or anyone who is not rich mean nothing and the president can murder their opponent and our supreme court says it's okay to do that. This is nothing to take lightly . So yesterday I cried for America
