Little Town of Nowhere
Quaint. If I had to describe the little village I grew up in, I would call it quaint. Entrapped by large, looming skyscrapers on every side, the small town of Abbots Langley is a welcome break. A break from the never-ending, frantic lives lived in the concrete blockades that squashed and slowly shrunk my home. I lived right next to the main road. We only had one. It ran from the top of the hill, upon which I lived, to the bottom where our only train station stood; derelict and forgotten. A high street atop the hill was the centre of our quiet English village. It was surrounded on one side by pubs and a school, while if you looked the other way, your view held endless, rolling hills of farms and parks and winding country lanes. It was a bubble; isolated from the city life that seemed to be watching us, waiting for us, in every direction.

The Big Smoke
Often seen as grey, slabbed in concrete, glass and steel. It’s more than that. Londinium. As they called it when the Romans officially made it a city. The Big Smoke. Teething with curious architecture, from Roman and Tudor to Victorian and now the modern skyscrapers in the east. Rich with maze-like cobbled streets. Even after 26 years of living here, I am always finding new places. All you have to do is take two lefts and a right, maybe two rights and then a final left and you’ll end up somewhere completely new. Some tiny Jack-The-Ripper style alleyway opening up in cavernous courtyards with food stalls and shops and coffee and drinks. I will never get bored of this city. I will never get bored of the views, the people, the bustle. It’s not just that everywhere is within walking distance, despite the immensity of the city, it’s that walking from place to place is beautiful.

My Hometown Is a Feeling
I spent 19 years of my life in Gdansk (Tricity) before moving permanently to London. Every corner of this city reminds me of something. Every spot brings back specific childhood memories.
