I want to runaway
When I anonymously surveyed women around the world for their hidden thoughts in 2015, I was not expecting the responses I received: hilarious, confessional, gut-wrenching, eloquent, brutally honest and most definitely raw. Body image, sex, grief, identity and worth were themes of the 35-55 age group as well as many women with the desire to run. Away. Anywhere.

Good To Be Good
What began as an informal initiative of friends donating essential goods for local shelters in lieu of birthday and Christmas gifts, soon transformed into my greatest accomplishment. Our grassroots non-profit has evolved into a platform where our “small yet mighty” acts of kindness can be turned into sustainable action; our personal responsibility turned into collective impact; and where our love for humanity is expressed practically and with empowerment by supporting women and those who need it the most.

Ditch the Boss Babe Persona & Life Gets a Whole Lot Easier (and more fun)
For many years I battled through life. I adopted masculine energy and stepped into an ethereal, engorged power stance as I fervently propelled myself forwards. I warred against internal and external resistance, defiantly donning armour as I assertively slayed the myriad obstacles in my path. I pushed through personal boundaries and obsessively chanted ‘feel the fear and do it anyway’. I squashed that fear and indeed I did do it anyway. I made progress, I evolved, grew, ascended… Externally, the houses got bigger, the number of children higher, businesses swelled, the career hierarchy elevated, onwards and upwards I pirouetted. I was definitely dancing my way up. A merry dance in hindsight. A dancing delirium I now reflect.

Taboos We All Are Tired Of!
Can you believe this- a majority of women prefer buying lingerie or any hot nightwear for ladies in India online primarily because they do not fear being caught while buying one. I understand shopping online has numerous benefits, but the one stated above boils my blood.

The Nude Woman
With the year coming to an end, I wanted to create something I have never done before. Throughout my journey in Hawaii, I found an ocean that gave me the understanding of acceptance. It gave me the understanding of gratitude of everything around me. I’ve always found the beauty within people, but this spot gave me a different perspective. The appearances of others around me has shown me the realization, we are all unique in our own ways. How people come together as a community forming a family together and dance as rainbows form in the sky. Holding hands around the drum circle as the fire heightened while chanting. No matter your color, gender, or appearance. Everyone welcomes you with open arms and treats you as their own.

Sexed but not Sexy
This essay will demonstrate how the pregnant body is both deeply personal whilst being subject to intense public scrutiny. The physical space that a pregnant body occupies in public, and the visibility of something that is deemed to be private, puts growing attention on the expectant mother. A sense of public responsibility for a future citizen (Luce, 1996) forces upon her unwanted opinions and expectations. For the purpose of this essay, the term ‘public’ is treated as interchangeable with the word ‘political’, because it is referring to the everyday politicisation of bodies that makes them public. (Jamie, 2020) For a more in-depth analysis, it will ignore the medicalisation of the pregnant body; the medical surveillance placed on women by midwives and other health professionals. Instead, it will focus on cultural scrutiny, in the form of prying relatives, acquaintances and strangers (Dwyer, 2006) feeling the right to place judgment on the pregnant woman. It will consider the patriarchal environment in which this right to ownership of the female body has been cultivated and worsened by the influence of the media. Drawing upon the routine sexualisation of women in the media, this essay will demonstrate the binary expectations of female sexuality. Within this narrow discourse, it will question the whereabouts of pregnant women. Why it is suddenly unacceptable and wrong for a pregnant body to be ‘sexy’, despite having been ‘sexed’ (Dwyer, 2006). How do pregnant women straddle this ‘Madonna-Whore Dichotomy’ and what implications does this have for the woman and her partner? It will also question this in the context of pornography. Lastly, there will be an examination of how some celebrities have shown both their maternal and sexual pregnant bodies, and in doing so have liberated themselves and other women from the binary categories that they could have fallen in to.
