From Worst to First: A Look at the 1991 Minnesota Twins
When I wrote my "What Went Wrong" story about the Minnesota Wild, I mentioned that the entire state is immensely jinxed in pro sports. Since the old Minneapolis Lakers dominated in the 1950s, it's been hell for the entire state. The Lakers moved to LA and added a dozen more championships, but Minnesota would get a new NBA team, the Timberwolves, who have been immensely snakebit, but that could change. Minnesota also had two NHL franchises who were hard luck, but at least the old North Stars had close calls. The same cannot be said for the Wild, and similar to the old Lakers, the North Stars had to relocate to finally win the big one. And don't get me started on the Vikings. Made four of the first 11 Super Bowls, but lost them all, and it's been almost five decades since they've played in the big game.

Somers Moves to Finals of Easter Tournament with 6-0 Win over Lakeland
Please see tip, pledge and subscribe buttons or my venmo is : @Rich-Monetti Crowd Shots On Friday April 18 in the Hudson Easter Tournament at Panas High School, Tyler Venturini spent a good deal of the day getting familiar with third base. The last time in the seventh inning when the sun was no help to the right fielder, the junior wasn’t looking for charity from the scorekeeper. “No, that was an era,” he assured. But there was no discrepancy in regards to the third inning smash that got the Tuskers started.

Please see tip, pledge and subscribe buttons or my venmo is : @Rich-Monetti Video Clips On Tuesday April 16, a windy chill didn’t keep the Wolves’s bats from heating up to a 12-0 fifth inning lead. Not so fast, a few walks and a series of Ardsley singles, it was suddenly a 12-6 game. And a leadoff walk in the bottom of the sixth looked like the whirlwind was going to continue, but catcher Steve Carozo saw the way out.

Stating the Obvious: The Colorado Rockies SUCK!
Seriously, what in blue blazes happened to this team?! On Saturday, May 10, 2025, while I was watching some Stanley Cup and NBA playoff action, I noticed something very alarming on the MLB scoreboard. The San Diego Padres were winning 20-0 over the Colorado Rockies... in the sixth inning! The sixth inning! And here I thought the Chargers moved out of San Diego. They did end up getting the extra point. The Rockies lost 21-0. At home.

Despite Loss to Greeley, Tennis Team is on the Same Page
Please see tip, pledge and subscribe buttons or my venmo is @Rich-Monetti Video Clips On Wednesday April 9, John Jay traveled to Horace Greeley and lost by a score of 7-0. A shutout that wasn’t necessarily a surprise to Evan Outwater. “We’re playing a lot harder competition this year,” he said. But the shots were still crisp and the rallies long, and despite the final tally, there was more to it for the Wolves.

My Honest Takes About the Texas Rangers So Far in 2025
*sighs* I don't know where to begin with this. I'm doing my best not to explode, but I need to vent about my team. I know it's only May, but I'm not impressed with how they're performing so far. Last season, they were expected to repeat as World Series Champions. However, they lacked a sense of urgency when they were fighting for a Wild Card spot. Before this season began, Joc Pederson proclaimed that the Rangers were going to win the American League West, which is always going to be competitive every year. Fast forward to this season, their hitting has been dry and falling even further in the AL West standings.

John Jay Overcomes Difficult Start in Victory Over Sleepy Hollow
Please see tip, pledge and subscribe buttons or my venmo is @Rich-Monetti Video v Sleepy Hollow and Somers On April 1, Riley Foote was unable to reach the second inning for John Jay’s home opener versus Sleepy Hollow. Walking in three in a four run first inning, Foote’s difficulty didn’t have Coach Steve DelMoro the least bit worried that half his starting rotation would be a question mark going forward. “One hundred percent,” he assured, “I have all the confidence in the world in her.” But it was still first things first, and Maria DeGaetano made sure the Horseman knew no one was looking ahead yet.

My Brutally Honest Thoughts About Barry Bonds
Recently, disgraced former MLB player Barry Bonds accused the league of continuously and repeatedly snubbing him for Hall of Fame consideration. As of 2025, Bonds, now 60, is still ineligible for the Hall, mainly for his use of performance-enhancing drugs during his career. He shared an Instagram post of different athletes who were blackballed from their respective sports. One of them was former San Francisco 49ers Quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who was infamous for taking a knee during the National Anthem during games to protest police brutality. In the case of Barry Bonds, he believes that now's the time for him to be in Cooperstown. Major League Baseball is actually doing him a favor by remaining barred from being in the Hall. They're doing it for his own good. He was inducted into the Pittsburgh Pirates Hall of Fame last season, alongside former manager Jim Leyland.

My Thoughts About the Texas Rangers' Loss to the St. Louis Cardinals in the 2011 World Series
2011 was a good and bad year for the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. The Dallas Mavericks had won their first NBA championship that summer and now, everyone's attention was on the Texas Rangers, because they were headed to the World Series to face the St. Louis Cardinals. Everyone was hopeful that the Rangers would accomplish the second half of two firsts happening in the area in the same year: both teams winning a championship. Unfortunately for the Rangers, this accomplishment fell short.
