My Honest Takes About the Texas Rangers So Far in 2025
Rangers fans must face the many realities of this team

*sighs*
I don't know where to begin with this. I'm doing my best not to explode, but I need to vent about my team. I know it's only May, but I'm not impressed with how they're performing so far. Last season, they were expected to repeat as World Series Champions. However, they lacked a sense of urgency when they were fighting for a Wild Card spot. Before this season began, Joc Pederson proclaimed that the Rangers were going to win the American League West, which is always going to be competitive every year. Fast forward to this season, their hitting has been dry and falling even further in the AL West standings.
As of the writing of this story, here is where the Texas Rangers stand:
- 18-21 (4th in the AL West)
- 5 games behind the Seattle Mariners
- Batting Average (.229-Ranks 25th in the league)
- 124 runs (Ranks 28th in the league)
- 3.48 ERA (8th in the league)
These stats not only scare me, but are of huge concern. In order to address their hitting woes, the Rangers have fired offensive coordinator Donnie Ecker after a 17-18 start and former All-Star second baseman Bret Boone was named as Ecker's replacement. If his last name is familiar to fans, that's because he's the brother of New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone. In a statement made by the team on X (formerly Twitter), President of Baseball Operations Chris Young said the following:
"After lengthy discussions and deliberations, we feel now is the appropriate time to provide our hitters with a new voice as we pursue goals of winning the division and reaching the postseason. We are extremely grateful to Donnie for all that he has accomplished here with the Rangers."
With the hiring of Bret Boone, can the Rangers snap out of their dry hitting spell and deliver their promises to the fans? We'll just have to wait and see, because being second to last in the division wasn't something that Rangers fans were expecting. Despite the acquisitions this team has made during the offseason and resigning Nathan Eovaldi, I want them to grow a spine and have a bit of fire. I want them to bite more than bark. I grew up being a die-hard Texas Rangers fan and championships are everything in Texas. Anything less than that is considered a disappointment. Sure, the Rangers won their first World Series title in 2023 and it was a great moment for a fan like me. This team is destined to win more World Series titles down the road and I've stated on a post on Instagram that more pressure is on Chris Young to make sure those expectations are met.
There's no doubt that Bruce Bochy is a legend and I'll always respect him. He's won four World Series titles (three with the San Francisco Giants and one with the Rangers). He's definitely a first-ballot Hall of Famer. We know that this team isn't doing well right now and if they are unable to turn things around soon, he'll be fired by season's end. Bruce Bochy is on the hot seat and he has to figure out a way for this team to make it to October. I know that this team has potential, but I like to see the hitting improve and the pitching to be solid. Also, I like to see more runs scored and the runners in scoring position problem to be addressed.
Rangers fans, are you optimistic that this team will turn things around in time for the Postseason and do you think that Bruce Bochy will return as manager in 2026?
