That Citizen From Michigan

Open letter to Donald.

Dear President Donald J. Trump,

As a child, I remember seeing your face presented on different Television shows and Movies that I loved. Then you were nothing but a Millionaire who walked on a screen to portray the role of yourself. I never thought someday I would be placing the word President in front of your name. Especially since your race in 2000 was not successful, just as your race in 2020. The morning I woke up to your new title, I felt as if I was trapped in a dream. As I flipped through the pages of my history books, the former President’s of the United States did not have a background similar to yours. You know, a spoon-fed millionaire with no prior history in politics? So the question “How did this happen?” would soon rattle my brain for weeks to come.

Unlike many people that I know, I do not hate you. I actually appreciate you more than you’ll ever know. Not for your political work, for your disasters. Without you encouraging the world to be such a hateful place I would have never understood that everyone in this world is not here in good spirits. Although I respect your opinions and how you choose to leave your mark in this world I do not agree with half of your actions in life. It hurts my heart that our country is misguided by someone with such ill-intentions. I wish you were different, someone young children could look up to to be exact.

In 2017 my world changed and it was not for the better. People began to show to me that they hated me for reasons I could not change and that was because you made them think that it was ok. Friends with hidden disabilities were forced to watch the news and see the leader of their country monk them. A minority of people were ripped away from their moms, dads, sisters, kids, etc. because you unapologetically made that decision to show you had more power than them. Criminals were taken from behind bars because you had something to prove. Not because they deserved it, not because we deserved it, because you wanted to show that you wore the pants in a relationship between a leader and his selectors. You divided a nation that seemed to have finally been finding its glue. You hurt and tore a variety full of people you probably will never know that you have affected because in your world none of us exist.

Thank you, for absolutely nothing. Thank you for the long days of watching the news and all of the amusing tweets. Thank you for the childish behavior and the insulting remarks. Thank you for all the bad things because I can't think of anything good. Thank you Mr. President for withholding a name you did not deserve. Thank you for teaching me how important my voice is. Thank you for teaching me why I should never let anyway take away my right to vote. Thank you for encouraging hatred towards my Governor when she did not deserve it, Thank you for promoting riots but degrading the meaning of protest, Finally thank you for the laughter as your hair insisted in blowing with the wind.

Lastly I would like to wish you well as we welcome our 46th President. I hope that life treats you well and that you remember how much larger you are than the rest of us. Without the title of President being added to your name I wonder will you decide to respect me? I hope your taupe holds on tight. As this will be a very long ride for you in the future. Someday I will become a leader as well. Maybe not to a whole nation but I'll definitely lead differently. Degrading none, positively helping many excel, impacting the world with my strong voice, and teaching young boys and girls that we are all one. Not dividing a country based upon color, taxes, and or gender.

Sincerely,

That citizen from Michigan.
