Two Birds, One Stone
Before I begin this article, I must emphasize a few things. One, this is not a defense, nor condemnation of the actions these sailors have taken. Two, I in no way have any knowledge of their cases beyond what is publicly available. Three, this article is not intended to be your sole source of information on this case. It is but a start for more critical thinking about these cases, and others like it.

REVEALED: Putin’s Secret Bunker And Billion-Dollar Palace In Russia.
Vladimir Putin's billion-dollar Palace overlooking the Black Sea has its own casino and ice hockey rank and it's surrounded by a special no-fly zone. Underground tunnels lead to a secret bunker which indicates preparation for the worst-case scenario. He was considering the possibility of a chemical attack on his defence system and how can he protect himself from external threats from his people if they decide they don't want him around anymore. Insider decoded satellite images, renderings and photos of his hideout. To see how far Mr Putin will go to ensure his survival in the 190 000 square-foot mansion near the resort town of Gelenjik in southern Russia. That's one thousand miles away from his official residence the Grand Kremlin Palace in Moscow. Diagrams reveal that this Mansion has 11 bedrooms above ground and a high-security bunker below the main course constructed to have two different supplies of oxygen. There is a list of tunnels to bring additional provisions the drawing shows. The two tunnels are hidden in the hill under the Mansion, they are around 130 and 200 feet long cross-sectional sketches show 15-inch thick concrete walls that appear to be blast-proof tunnels. Moreover, there have multiple ventilation shafts in case of a chemical attack that could pollute the air and they're equipped with a freshwater supply, sewage lines and fire system. Everything Putin would need to survive for weeks at a time. Additionally, a lot of space to store cables, racks for conduits for power and fibre optics and the phone so that if the worst happens communications will continue to flow into the Palace. An Elevator Shaft connects the tunnels to the lower one, including a moving walkway leading to the Black Sea beach, allowing for a quick escape. These tunnels were built over 10 years ago demonstrating how long Putin has been obsessed over his safety. This is back when Putin was meeting with the U.S. presidents. We now know that in the back of his head, he was making preparations for existential conflict with the West.
