Rishi The Robot.

Prime Minister's Robotic Performance.

By Nicholas BishopPublished 3 years ago 4 min read
Prime Minister: Rishi Sunak.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak made a declaration about bringing the nation together. Mr. Sunak said he would be humble and would serve the people as a servant.

As he stood at the lectern he appeared very robotic. He did not focus on the camera as he read from a prepared speech from an autocue. His words though meant to have meaning came over as empty and machine-like. Mr Sunak is not the first Tory leader to be called robotic his Tory predecessor Theresa May was called the Maybot.

Rishi Sunak from his head to his body looked like one of those horrible A. I. robots. One of those robot heads that seems soulless and unfeeling. One of those heads that threatens the human race with destruction. One of those heads like Sophia the robot that said humans are inefficient. This performance will do nothing for his public image amongst Tories or the general public.

Sunak was wheeled out to consolidate his win and make a statement to his party and the general public. His team when looking back at his terminator-like demeanour would have done it differently for him. It is important in today's media-led world that you get your public appearance right. On this occasion, Mr. Sunak and his team of media advisors got this wrong. No doubt, he or they will not want to make this mistake again.

Wishy-Washy having been endorsed by King Charles will be appearing outside of No 10 soon. The lectern is being wheeled out even as I write this for Mr. Sunak to lay out his plans. No doubt, the Ukraine war will be mentioned, as will the rise in the cost of living, etc, etc. Rishi will have his in-tray full of those issues and other pressing matters.

Rishi's rise to the top job has been more of a coronation than being voted in. Angela Rayner, Deputy Labour Leader, highlighted this. She like many opposition politicians is calling for a general election. However, in a parliamentary democracy governments do have the right to put in a place a new Prime Minister. The contest that saw Liz Truss coming to power was a drawn-out affair. This one has been shorter which saw Boris standing aside and Penny Mordaunt dropping out.

Many are utterly tired of this government and are crying out for and praying for a general election. Even Tory voters are saying this with some saying they will never vote for the party again. We have a shower of failed and disgraced Prime Ministers David Cameron, Theresa May, Boris Johnson, Liz Truss, and now Rishi Sunak. Sunak himself has addressed this issue head-on and has stated there will be no general election. Sunak has 2 years to do what he wants to do with the UK. Can the son of a doctor and a pharmacy owner from Southhampton understand the needs of the people he serves? Can a billionaire ex-finance person who worked for Goldman Sachs understand the poorest in our communities?

The fact that we are here at all with Sunak being Prime Minister is a miracle. Many had written off the Tory golden boy as he was soundly beaten by Truss. However, here he is soon to be Prime Minister and he has the chance to show us what he can do. It will be interesting to see who will be in a Sunak cabinet. Who will he keep in the old Truss cabinet and who will he fire? Who will he bring in and will they be yes men and women? Or will he also bring in people who do not share his political views? We remain to see who is kept, who is out, and who he brings in. Certainly, Mr. Sunak will want people he can trust and people he can work with.

Sunak is the young person to be Prime Minister in 200 years at the age of 42. Not since William Pitt the Younger has such a young man held high office. Rishi is Hindu by faith and which breaks with tradition as his predecessors have been Christian. Disraeli was the only other Prime Minister who had a non-Christian background being Jewish. However, Benjamin Disraeli was a Christian convert during his time as Prime Minister.

Asian people in this country are a sizeable minority and are the dominant population in places like Leicester. We already have an Asian Mayor of London though Muslim by faith. The Scottish Labour party leader is also of Asian Muslim heritage. Asians like it or not born here, British bred, are in every sector of our community now.

So as Sunak makes his speech outside 10 Downing Street he faces a profound crisis. Aftermath of Covid, the Ukraine war, Brexit is not perfect, the cost of living crisis, etc. Many Tories will not want Sunak which goes for a percentage of Tory MPs and voters. Most of the population will not want him either. Labour is flying in the polls and Sunak will be very aware of this. Hence, like another former Chancellor who became Prime Minister Gordon Brown, Mr. Sunak will not commit to having a general election. As the polls stand now, Sunak and the Tories would probably be wiped out.

Sunak comes over as a very affable person and no doubt he is. However, he proved he could be ruthless when stabbing his former boss Johnson in the back. This man is a highly intelligent and savvy operator and no matter his future one cannot overlook this.

So what will Sunak's public image be? Unlike the clown-like Boris Sunak will be straight-laced and will be very professional and appear to be competent. The age of Cameron, May, Johnson, and Truss is over. This is the age of Sunak and he will rise or fall based on what he does and says. In the end just like his Tory predecessors and persons in charge anywhere we will see what transpires as the new Prime Minister takes the helm.
