Reason First: National Guard member succumbs due to injuries

One of the two members of the National Guard who were shot in Washington DC on Wednesday has died, US President Donald Trump said.

On this somber day where Sarah Beckstrom, a warrior in the nation’s capital, died from her wounds this only amplifies the need for security not in cities but education in homes.

The shooter, who had ties to the Central Intelligence Agency had been granted asylum in the United States, gunned down another Guardsman with a .357 revolver. He is in critical condition.

Beckstrom had been guarding the DC area as part of President Trump’s initiative to curtail crime on the streets. With her death, Rahmanullah Lakanwal may face the capital punishment if found guilty in a court of law.

The sick irony is that Trump wanted to keep American streets safe from Americans but outside invaders like Lakanwal have proven his efforts to be false.

The irony deepens as Trump has proposed to keep a clamp down on immigrants from “Third World countries” (now known as developing nations) to American shores. This is abhorrent. Either you declare war on these nations, or you allow people to be absorbed into the fabric of the United States.

What’s sadder is the fact that Beckstrom had to die for the policies of an elected official who says that people should be barred from the country if they don’t “love” it.

That’s the key point of being an American; you have the right to critique this nation and its flaws while lifting up its virtues. Yes, you can hate America and still live here. That’s the prerogative of every United States citizen.

For President Trump to say Miss Beckstrom “is looking down on us right now,” from where? heaven. He’s obviously not a full-fledged Christian because you don’t go directly to that fantasy land according to their own mythology.

And for him to stop the travel of innocent individuals who want to make their lives better and do love America, the idea that anyone anywhere in the universe can hold, that is what is most frustrating.

Miss Beckstrom did not die in vain. She perished as a patriot to this wonderful country. In everything that she did, she ensured that this place would be protected.

Despite all of the rhetoric and talking heads babbling back and forth, this particular occasion should be marked with solemnity and grace.

Lakanwal is a brute who couldn’t comprehend what it means to be free. No, he took a pistol and forever altered the course of the lives of young people who wanted to keep this land free from scoundrels like him.

As of this writing, Andrew Wolfe is fighting for his life. Both of them had been able to garner the respect and admiration of fellow Guardsman and other officials.

From the District, there seemed to be numbers of people lining the street to show respect for the fallen military woman. To consider this one of the saddest moments in American history would not be an overstatement.

This cuts to the very substance of our reason, purpose, and self-esteem as author and philosopher Ayn Rand once said. The irrationalism of the perpetrator, the lack of any drive for positivity, and the complete lack of selfishness prompted this shooter to seek to claim the lives of these brave souls.

If we take into account the idea that Trump is trying to protect the streets but sees vicious criminals snuff out the life and injure the other in a horrific sign of force, then that’s the real problem.

That’s the problem this country must face, not the minor dereliction of some drug dealers on the streets of America’s cities. For Sarah Beckstrom, she deserved more from her president and a grateful nation, not for her sacrifice but for her selfish and unwavering appeal to justice and peace.
