Why? Why? Why? A good friend of mine moaned to me via text this morning, the Day After: "Biden is winning popular vote - 68.7M vs. 66.1M so far. Why would 66M people vote for THAT? Why would a person of color vote for that racist? Why would a woman vote for a sexual predator? Why would a person with decency vote for an indecent person? Why? Why? Why?!"

Election Day 2020
Ah, good ole Election Day once again. The one day out of the year where people can fulfill their patriotic duty to vote for the people that are running for public office. They also get to vote in their state elections as well. The politicians in all levels of government this election should be more understanding in the issues that affect everyone as a whole. It is important for people who do not like the current officials in office are able to vote them out. That's the beauty of our right to vote in the United States and the democratic process.

Make Being Black Legal in America
I know as I write this that we are currently awaiting election results from this Presidential election. To me, it really doesn't matter who wins. It will still feel illegal to be a Black American. Even the statement Black American or African-American bothers me. Why can't I be just an American like any other person in this country? No one refers to White people as White Americans or European Americans. Why must my ties to this country include a hyphen? I was born here. My family was born here. I am not from Africa. Not all of my ancestors are even from Africa. However, I must identify myself with a country that I know nothing about for the comfort of other non-Black Americans. What most don't realize is that hyphen in African-Americans is to remind us that we don't belong here.

How The 'Trump Train' Took America Further Off the Rails
I am not a conservative, but I think one thing must be admitted: Donald Trump's incarnation of the Republican Party is quite skilled at navigating through scandals, emerging relatively unscathed. Sure, there are a few conservative fall guys and scapegoats who get jail time, littering the media landscape here and there. Still, by and large, most of them just "power through" batshit crazy moments like they're all just a figment of our imaginations, and they skillfully rely on our cultural desensitization and collective amnesia.

Actions After Voting
Not too long ago my ancestors were not allowed the option of voting. They were excluded from one of society’s most important methods of exercising freedom at the time. After the end of chattel enslavement of African people in America, this was yet another barrier placed in front of their journey towards the destination of “ true freedom.” The power of choice and right to choose was not granted to these newly “freed” African Americans. The concept of “free will” or the ability to act at one’s own discretion did not truly apply to African Americans. This can also be applied to women, since they were restricted from voting as well. It’s also important to remain aware of the intersections black women existed at in this situation and the nuances that followed. Black women endured the brunt of racism and misogyny simultaneously.
