Labour Flying Out Failed or Illegal migrants.

Home Office Plans.

Plane Flying Migrants Out.

From the start, Sir Keir Starmer made it plain that he would scrap the 'Rwanda Plan'. The plan was to fly failed or illegal migrants out to Rwanda where they would presumably, start a new life. However, on assuming office, Sir Keir did indeed scrap the plan. Instead, Mr. Starmer will be setting up a UK Border Security Command to tackle migrants and stop illegal gangs exploiting them. Recruitment for the border command began in July. Also, a commander of this force has yet to be announced.

The Home Office under Yvette Cooper has announced that there will be a "large surge" in return flights for failed asylum seekers and others who have no right to be here. There are plans to recruit 100 more intelligence officers to target people smugglers and the gangs they work for. Labour will reopen immigration detention centres in Hampshire and Oxfordshire. 290 beds will be added to these detention centres to house more people.

Yvette Cooper said she wanted to introduce a "better controlled" system to replace "the chaos that has blighted the system for far too long". The Tories are saying that Labour is not "serious" about tackling the people smugglers or "stopping the boats".

Shadow Home Secretary James Cleverly has welcomed more resources for the NCA (National Crime Agency like the UK FBI) and increased detention capacity. Conversely, Mr. Cleverly followed this praise up by saying he thought the government was still not "ambitious enough".

Home Office Minister Seema Malhotra said there had been 9 return flights in the 6 weeks Labour had been in power. Labour wants 3,000 more flights carrying illegals or failed asylum seekers out of the country than last year. Labour will introduce sanctions on employers who knowingly employ or exploit foreign employees working in the black economy.

All of the above sounds tough and Labour needs to get a grip of this situation. Labour must be seen to be and actually, be tough, on those who are failed asylum seekers and those who are just free-loading economic migrants. Like the Rwanda Plan before it though will all this be enough to stop the boats? It's too early to say, time will tell if Labour's efforts have any effect and deter would-be boaters across the channel. Smashing and deterring criminal gangs who exploit people for money. These gangs equip crossers of the channel with dinghies that are not fit to carry 50 to a hundred people. These dinghies overloaded with folk, sail across one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world. It's a wonder there haven't been more accidents between ships and dinghies. However, some dinghies have capsized and migrants drowned. Stopping the boats and stopping the criminal gangs who use them would also save lives.

Sir Keir used to call the Rwanda Plan a gimmick. Just words to make it look like the Tories were tackling migration when in reality, the Rwanda Plan was dead on arrival. A non-workable plan and too expensive to carry out. Even if the Rwanda Plan was up and running the amount of people flown out to Rwanda would take years to bring the number of migrants down. And then what about the humanitarian situation of these people in Rwanda? A country with a history of genocide and war?

Of course, the British government gave some money to the Rwandans for their cooperation in this plan. How will Labour re-coop this now the Rwanda Plan has been scrapped? Probably the Rwandans were hoping the Conservatives would return to power so the Tory government would send more money. However, it didn't turn out like that and there is now a Labour government under Sir Keir Starmer.
