Deep Problems of The UK.

By Nicholas BishopPublished about a year ago 4 min read
Tattered Union Flag.

When David Cameron came to power in 2010 he described the country as 'Broken Britain'. After 14 years of Tory misrule, the country remains even more fractured. The four nations that make up the UK apart from England have their parliaments and assemblies. This idea started under Blair and Brown giving the nations of the UK in a democratic vote, the choice to have their autonomy. The vote came back yes, overwhelmingly. So Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland voted to have their parliaments and assemblies. They then have the right to make their decisions on many things.

However, these bastions of democracy still come under Westminister for decisions like defence. Parties like the SNP, the Welsh Nationalist Party, and Northern Irish parties still send MPs to Westminister. Devolution is a good thing in one way but it has also brought division and bitterness between Westminister, Edinburgh, Cardiff, and Northern Ireland.

The UK has endured the spectre of leaving the EU. A contentious issue for many then and still is today. The vote came in 2016 48 % of the electorate wanted the UK to stay in the European Union. 51% or thereabouts, wanted us to leave. Then we had the COVID pandemic which killed a multitude of us. The NHS was worked to death dealing with patients on death's door. We had lockdown after lockdown while the Johnson government broke their own rules and partied like it was 1999 (except it was 2020). Then the war with Ukraine and Russia came. This led to a rise in energy costs which we are only just getting over. So, it seems the UK lately has just limped on from one crisis to another. Now the conspiracy theorists out there are saying Mpox could be the new pandemic and once more, we will have lockdowns.

Tory cutbacks have affected the most vulnerable in our society. Homelessness and poverty have reached near Dickensian levels. Every high street in the UK and I can only speak about England here, looks the same. Charity shops, closed-down shops, boarded-up buildings, job centres, and aimless people walking around like zombies. Meanwhile from David Cameron to Rishi Sunak the government carried on out of touch and not caring. The UK remains divided between the haves and have-nots. The class system has always blighted this country since 1066.

The reason why people like Nigel Farage told us to leave the EU was to stop immigrants/migrants. However, while it might have stopped some European people from coming here the UK is still not in control of its borders. Migrants from God knows where continue to stream across the channel and we bring them ashore. We put them up in hotels until they can be processed and have to leave to stay or go. Sunak talked about stopping the boats but that never happened. The Rwanda Plan has been scrapped by Starmer and Co. Mr. Starmer will set up a command to deal with migrants and the criminals who exploit them. Well, Sir Keir, with all due respect, we'll see how that goes!

The recent riots in the UK have exposed the racial divide in this country. Native Brits see their country no longer looking British as they see it. Migrants from all parts of the world whether Pakistani or Pole have made many areas in the UK unrecognisable. Although the UK remains a majority Native population in certain areas Natives are a minority. In places like London, Leicester, Bradford, etc, Native Brits or NBs are in the minority.

Now don't get me wrong, immigrants prop up our country, especially in the NHS. Immigrants and migrants do certain jobs that Native Brits do not want to do. The problem has been the pace at which Britain has been changed overnight by immigration. How many communities do not want to integrate or assimilate?

Multiculturism has failed and instead of having an agenda of assimilation we let everyone do what they want and we wonder why we have problems. The issues over migration and immigration and the problems that Native Brits encounter with it should be addressed. There should be solutions forthcoming like training Native Brits to do jobs in the NHS for example. Then we wouldn't need to recruit abroad.

Immigration should be cut and migration tackled in the way Australia did it. However, I am not expecting anything this radical any time soon.

I have painted the UK as a hellhole and so it is in many areas. Yes, there are some lovely areas in the UK and we have a great (though not everyone agrees) history. We still have a Royal family that supposedly keeps us together. I was never a Royalist (although I like the history) but since Queen Elizabeth II passed on the country doesn't seem the same.

So where does Britain or what remains of it go from here? Well, on its present course, we are just tumbling into an abyss of 'Anarchy in the UK' as the Sex Pistols once noted in a song.
