Freedom? A natural human right for ALL….
The word freedom is defined as “the power or right to act, think or speak as one wants without hindrance or restraint.” This also leads to the idea concerning freedom of choice for different things throughout life. Notice that the definition of the word has “power” in it, hence this is what leads to unfortunate causes in the lack of freedom, choice of different things in life and being able to be an authentic individual. Freedom comes with a very high price tag at times, especially when it comes to life or death. Those who have power to give freedom to others have an immense responsibility to be ethical, kind, giving, and also empathetic to the lives of every human being who wants freedom, seeks freedom or already has freedom in their own right. I often ask why do people abuse the power that they might have when it comes to issues of freedom? Unfortunately, the abuse of power stems from the egotistical arrogance and greed of some individuals that can lead to the crushing weight of war. What happens to the innocent individuals who suffer and have their freedoms taken from them because of those who abuse their power? Often times they might lose their lives in the most unfair way. My heart breaks to think of so many innocent women, children, and families who have been displaced from their homes without wanting to be simply because of the disgustingly horrific and egotistical power of one person or a small group of individuals. Freedom rings in the minds of all humanity I’m sure, but again those who wield the majority of the power in the world because they have billions of dollars or extreme political influence do not always do what’s best for others because of a selfishness and once again, greed for power. Life can be a vicious cycle of joy, pain, happiness, suffering, back to joy for a while, then back to sadness, depression, exhaustion, then a little bit of joy once again. I ask myself daily, is this freedom? I honestly do not know. But it seems as though the longer we live, the more our freedoms are tested everywhere we go, no matter where we are in the world. I simply and honestly hope and wish for the forces of the universe to come upon those horrific individuals who crush the freedoms of innocent individuals and they are held accountable for the atrocities that they cause because everyone deserves to have some freedom in their life which reflects joy and happiness. Freedom is definitely a privilege, although it is important for people around the world to realize that freedom absolutely does not mean hurting other human beings ever in any way, whether it be emotionally, physically or psychologically. The Liberty Bell of freedom must be taught and exemplified in young, middle-aged and older individuals throughout life in order for there to be more widespread joy for basic human freedoms in life. Freedom should come “free” to all in the world but unfortunately it isn’t always “free” - ironically freedom often times comes with a huge price tag.
Free? A price tag? Being an individual who lives in a country that boasts about freedom is a privilege that I realize I am very fortunate to have thus far in my life, although freedom can mean many different things to various different people even within one country. The sad thing about freedom is that it can actually cause division, just exactly like what is happening in the Ukraine. What do I mean by this? Well, the right to free speech, the right to bear arms, the right to vote, the right to seek an education, the right to roam the streets and be homeless, the right to make money and get rich if you want to, the right to travel, the right to work, the right to have a family or not, the right to be whatever gender you want to be and so so so many others… The majority of these rights to various different so called “freedoms” often times causes so much division among people and it is immensely disturbing. It makes me think of the silly cliché phrase, “why can’t we all just get along?” Again, I do not know why there cannot be more peace in the world but one of the only things that comes to mind is that the diversity of the human mind in every individual is where our freedom lies, although when people chose to constantly disagree and be divisive rather than coming together for the common good is when freedom is affected for many individuals. Again, I go back to the fact that freedom can be absolutely and positively joyful but it depends on how freedoms are thought of and how freedoms are used. Free the mind, free the body, free the opportunities for free education, and here it goes again BUT those things are not always FREE. I don’t know, and I honestly really and truly don’t know exactly what can be done about the ugliness in the world and why people’s freedoms are held hostage by awful people. All I can think of is that I hope that enough good people in the world band together collectively in order for good to prevail so that freedom is attainable for those who are suffering in the world at this time. Let freedom ring loudly!
