Escalator Escapades, Teleprompter Trip Ups, and Sound System Shambles.

Trump Smells a Rat!

Hand in Hand Donald and Melania.

Everything that could go wrong did go wrong for Donald Trump. First off, when he arrived at the UN building, the escalator he mounted stopped working. Leaving the President and the First Lady stuck at the bottom of the escalator. Then, when Trump was making his speech at the UN auditorium, his teleprompter stopped working. And as if that wasn't bad enough, the sound system started to play up.

Trump, on social media right away, said that the three mishaps cannot be a coincidence. With anything, technical glitches occur, but 3 times in a row? What are the odds that three technical devices suddenly start going wrong? I am prepared to admit that 3 glitches in devices can happen, but it all seems rather odd.

Understandably, Trump would be suspicious. There are those out there who are enemies of Trump, be they nations, groups, or individuals. So could enemy nations be behind Trump's mishaps? In the murky world of espionage, who is to say what goes on?

An article in The Times highlighted the fact that UN workers had stopped the escalator and found it funny. Could these pranksters also be behind the other two faux pas? Trump was not a happy man and demanded an inquiry. The US Ambassador to the UN, Mike Waltz, said the three mishaps were "unacceptable". The White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said the incidents were "deliberate".

Mr. Trump said he would send a letter to the UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres. Trump described these events as "sinister". Trump orated a statement for public consumption, "This wasn't a coincidence, this was triple sabotage. They ought to be ashamed of themselves". Trump said whoever was behind these events (if there was anyone) should be arrested.

The UN has given explanations about the three incidents. Regarding the escalator, they stated that a safety mechanism was likely triggered by a video camera operator walking backwards up the escalator. The teleprompter is the responsibility of the White House, not the United Nations. And there was nothing wrong with the sound system. Delegates could hear Trump's speech on their headphones in English or translated into their respective languages. So the UN is counterarguing Trump's view of something "sinister" and "sabotage". So, who is correct, Trump or the UN? I personally wouldn't like to say who is right or wrong; the truth of the matter may never be known.

Trump was his usual self as he made his speech at the UN. Attacking London Mayor Sadiq Khan, saying he wanted to bring in Sharia Law. That London didn't look like it used to, thanks to many different nationalities residing there. He attacked global warming as a hoax. He said Europe needed to do something about mass migration as the continent was losing its identity. I think the part about Mr. Khan wanting to introduce Sharia Law is questionable. The part about global warming being a hoax is also questionable. However, Mr. Trump does have a point about too many non-Europeans coming to reside in European countries. Especially if they have a different culture, religion, etc. Parts of the UK and other European countries have been transformed forever, and this is not racist, Islamophobic, or any other label you wish to add - it is a fact.

Trump touched on Gaza, saying nothing about Palestine having its own state. All he said was remember the horrors of Oct 7 perpetrated by Hamas. And the fact that the living hostages in Gaza must be released. And the dead hostages must also be returned before there can be any peace.

So Trump had mishaps and misdemeanours, essentially a bad day, and whatever our station in life, we all have them.
