Why must so many years pass
to heal a wound
it took only a day to make?
We wear our scars like a badge
but who wants to be
the Sherriff of Stupidtown?
To yearn for the day
when there are no more
guns in the valley,
to know that our children
are safe so we can just
ride into the sunset
or die among the trees—
is that too much to ask?
Rather than seek in vain
the means to disappear,
let us learn to leave no scars.

As true a statementt as there will ever be. I like how you seem to put so much of yourself in every piece you create.
You always put all your weight behind it, don't you 😁
Awesome, C!!!❤️❤️💕
You are an amazing poetry writer. The art of storytelling and making it sound poetic, you have nailed it.
Powerful work CRB! Well said my friend!
Lovely poem. A beautiful lesson in it that everyone should follow.
Beautifully written! That last line brings it all together, let us learn to leave no scars. Something that seems so easy, yet so hard to accomplish. Fantastic work as always!
The opening lines/question set the stage magnificently! Excellent poem, Rommi!
Well-wrought, Rommi! This poem hits seriously deep, and I really hope you're doing well. It's so sad that pain takes so much time to pass when it can hit us so fast. "Let us learn to leave no scars" - a lesson for the world.
That last line was so deep. I wish all of us can follow that. Loved your poem. I was so happy to see something new from you
Oh, I wish we could learn. Beautiful piece, Rommi. I read your article as well. Excellent work. No comment left, as I don't have an account.
These are scary days with more candidates volunteering for the surprisingly coveted role of sheriff of stupid town than are easily counted. Your poem is filled with longing for a better world for our children. I wish it could be so but wisdom seems to have abandoned this land for short term gain. Beautiful writing; painful reality, Rommi!
Some great final lines, well done!
Exactly, do you think this would ever happen for real. Good job.
Wonderful, Charles <3 Love it <3 When I was a teen, I once read about the results of a study in the newspaper that it takes 7 positive actions to correct one negative action performed on a person. I've always tried to be one of the positves in peoples lives, if I could, every since
