Already Been There

Will

By C. Rommial ButlerPublished 8 months ago 1 min read
Violas growing wildly atop a microwave. I bring them in sometimes to save them being tossed about by storm and stress, then take them out again to catch the sun when it shines its brightest and best.

I was lied to, cheated, and betrayed,

But I won’t despair.

I’ve already been there.

I should have went; out of love I stayed,

So I won’t despair.

I’ve already been there.

I gave all I had… do I have a little more?

I will not despair.

I’ve already been there.

My heart’s an open book but where’s the open door?

I cannot despair.

I’ve already been there.

***** * *****

The darkest depth of Hell

Is just a useless spell

Cast by jealous minds

Who cannot shed their rinds

And would rather bear the curse

That makes it so much worse,

Yet from beginning to end

To a stronger will they bend.

***** * *****

I cannot because I will not,

Despair is NOT my eternal lot,

But merely a passing phase—

Clarity from the Ancient of Days.

I will not complain

That it caused me pain

Or seek out a reward

For a game I never scored.

I cannot because I will not—

NO—I will not despair—

I’ve already been there,

And I accept my lot.

And we rise above our challenges...we will not despair. Bravo for that, Charles.

Ah, yes, the futility of despair, hopefully always a one time visit. Well penned, Rommi!

Well done, sir. "Will not despair, I've already been there, " I love the repeat of those lines and take it as a reminder that we all can endure and we must.

  • May only good things come your way hereafter ✨️❤️ Loved your poem!

Precious few still understand that sometimes sacrifice is a moral imperative. Not a very popular message these days, suffering for what is right and true, but how else can we teach our children that life is not always easy and that sometimes a single grown up in a tough situation is far better than none at all. Keep the faith, brother. I believe in you.

This is a poem with a message. It's also dipped in deep sadness. But more importantly there's a message to not dwell in the sadness. "Despair is NOT my eternal lot" - perfectly said! I hope life is good for you, Rommi. If it's not right now, I'm sure it will be because you deserve the best 😁 Also, the flowers. Th-that's exactly the sort of thing/trait I would write for a character to show they are a good and caring human. You are real, and your character is good, caring, and amazing!

Pain transformed into strength, and clarity forged through suffering. Your defiance of despair speaks loud and clear.

This one hits hard! And I hope your path ahead is way softer than the one behind. You’ve been through enough, now may good things stick around. ✨

Stay strong. This is the voice of experience and battles hard won. I liked it. I liked its defiance.
