Well worn

Still A Lot Of Life

By Kelli Sheckler-AmsdenPublished 2 years ago 1 min read

scabs and scrapes and scars to show

from every harsh word, every blow

that dwindled me from head to toe

becoming this me, that I don't know

switches, stitches, seams sewn up and down

make believe moments when I felt like a clown

make up to make me more like somebody else

anyone was better than being myself

promises broken, promises made to appease

a promise to one day make it all up to me

one day at a time, one foot in front of the other

one day to be the girl that was raised by my mother

fearless and faultless mercy for my reflection

loving myself fully, without exception

I'm so glad you're working your way through these things with your poetry, and creating inspiration for others in the process.

Am I remembering wrong, or is the use of makeup, the distortion of self for various purposes, a recurring theme in your work lately? Might have been somewhere else I came across it.
