You’re Too Old For Me
You said it like a conclusion,
As though time had settled the case.
As though connection checks a mirror,
Before it dares to take place.
You measured me in numbers,
Not in laughter or fire or truth.
As if the soul keeps a calendar,
And passion belongs to youth.
You did not see my hunger for life,
Or how fiercely I still grow.
You did not hear my curiosity,
Or how deeply I know.
Age has taught me resilience,
Not fatigue, not retreat.
It has sharpened my instincts,
And strengthened my feet.
If loving me feels uncomfortable,
That is yours to unpack.
I will not shrink my existence,
To make your fear relax.
I have lived enough to choose myself,
Without apology or plea.
I am not too old for love,
I am too honest to be unseen.
Time has refined my spirit,
Not diminished its flame.
I know what I bring to the table,
And I honour my name.
If you need youth to feel alive,
Then walk your chosen road.
I am not too old for connection,
You are too afraid of depth bestowed.

I've been writing poetry since the age of fourteen. With pen in hand, I wander through realms unseen. The pen holds power; ink reveals hidden thoughts. A poet may speak truth or weave a tale. You decide. Let pen and ink capture your mind❤️

Magic, Maire. Love, love, loved this. Maybe because I can relate to it. I have been going through this process of self-denial, saying that I am too old to start another relationship. To my surprise, many ladies much younger than me are saying age is just a number, it is the person that counts. Right before they rip me off. 😁😁 Some great lines in here.
I am too old for everyone, although some people want to be old, I am still fifteen in my mind. Great words to ponder on
nice to know your worth
