Too Deep. Too Far.
For Suits, Two Hearts, One Game

I
I met you once,
and we played a game.
A game of hearts and smiles
and flirty conversation
And we played like
we had nothing to loose
We played like it was nothing
more than a game
Just the two of us.
But it was more than us,
It was us
And her
And my family
And your past
And my past
And every insecurity
That lay between us.
II
You were like a rose,
after it’s been cut
And bound
And sold
And admired
And passed around
And it lay dry and withered
on a kitchen table
No one wants a dry rose,
So they throw you away.
But if they took a second
they’d see
If you peel away
the delicate armor
Your heart is a silken rosebud
nested deep inside.
III
I was like storm
Violent and changing
I accidentally ripped you apart
Trying to pull you
into the peaceful eye
of the mess I had made
I broke you apart,
But you let me
And all I want
is to put you back together
But no one wants a storm
Violence is frightening
Sure, they like the rain
They’re enthralled
By the thunder
But no one wants a storm
Except you
Even through I broke you
You wanted me
IV
And despite it all we played
But now we’ve played too far
And our flirty conversation
Has been turned to an art
But now we’ve crossed a line
And we played our hands open
We’re in too deep
It’s double or nothing
And we lost it all
All we have left to bet
Is our hearts
