Imprisoned,
by the past
Sorrowful, stuck fast
Memories,
both glad and sad
clung
like cobwebs
festooned around The Door.
How long,
she mused
had it been jammed shut?
Days, months, decades?
Her touch brushed the rough surface
Dust tickled her nose
The Door locked her in…
Safe, secure with sweet memories
Or
Did The Door lock out
Life, Loved Ones, Laughter?
Timidly,
her hand twisted the brass knob
reluctantly,
The Door creaked open…

Oh I love this! "The Door locked her in…" panic! but then a turn of the knob and she's in. This is so like a "I can't find my keys" moment, but you left them in your coat pocket.
Kind of like one of those AHA moments 😉😉
Yay! Glad she found her way out! This is such a well done exploration of age's effects on the mind and body. Great pair of poems, Angie!
Ohh this is a great one! (Plus a great little collection to peruse through this morning). Love how you used the door in a metaphorical and literal sense
Wow, the symbol of the door to me is freedom and your poem is the opposite. Excellent poetry
