Spectacular Sunflowers
Eavesdropping Sleepy Mission Unofficial Challenge
A field of golden sunflowers 🌻
Entices me to break social convention
To invite myself along… would that be wrong!?
Overhearing a snippet of conversation to which I didn’t belong…
Which sunflower field will we visit this weekend?
How? Where? When?
Please, Oh Please… can I tag along?

We set off soon after the day was dawning
All of us bleary eyed and yawning.
Hurtling along many a winding country road
Past rust-coloured fields of sorghum
And munching cows busily keeping paddocks mowed.
Car music blaring…
Anticipation steadily rising.
🌻
At last, destination ahead… paddock parking over there…
Rain starts to sprinkle
Threatens to ruin gorgeous curly hair!
Wistfully we eye a beckoning buggy…
A sore foot has me hobbling along…
The kilometre long trek to those vibrant beauties…
Undulating, damp and definitely muddy!
🌻
Resplendent in all their glory
Majestic heads held high
Face a glimmering sun… the hero of their story.
Siblings eagerly wade in…
An informal photo shoot ensues…
At times, shot in hilarious poses…
Flower heads are cats to pat or… phones for a chat!

Free to pick as many as we can carry…
Soon we settle for trios…
Those tough stemmed, exquisitely formed blooms
Are surprisingly fragile…
Leaving a Hansel and Gretel style trail of yellow petals!
Sticky, black mud cakes shoes
Persistently clinging, creating inch high wedge heels.

Hmm… so, does this adventure disprove
That sage old saying…
Nothing good ever comes from eavesdropping!
Sunflowers were the magnet that sent me socially straying.
My verdict…
Today’s outing was fun; photos by the ton; perfect flowers… more than one!
So… my accidental act
Brought me great pleasure… that’s a fact!
