I saw you standing at the bus stop,
outside the shelter,
in the rain.
Your hair
hanging like a string mop,
your sopping clothes
stuck to your weary bones.
I wondered
why you didn't come inside.
I wondered
why you weren't running for shelter.
I wondered
if maybe, you were trying
to drown your sorrows,
or wash away your demons.
I wondered
if you even felt the rain at all.
Then as it fell, harder and harder,
pelting you with every drop,
as the lightning flashed,
and the thunder clapped
and the rain poured down, down, down on you;
I swear I heard the sky curse your name.
And you just stood there,
with a smile,
soaking it all in.

A moment in the rain, captured beautifully.
Fabulous work Cathy! Fantastic stanzas my friend! 🌸
This is so good. I could literally picture the whole scene….you made the rain feel like its own character. That smile at the end? Chills. I’m dying to know what they were thinking—like, are they okay, or just completely over it?

This felt like the opening sequence to a film!
That person has finally lost their marbles, haven't they? Something happened which was the straw that broke the camel's back. Something inside them snapped. That smile seems like saying, "Congrats universe, you finally broke me. You won".
Your poetry is amazing. It always makes me feel something - agh I can’t explain what I mean. It’s just brilliant.
Marvelous Inspirational poem!!! Loving it!!!❤️❤️💕
Loved the twist at the end! It made me smile in turn :) Such a short piece but it was so full of everything. Brilliant work, my friend.
