Stand Up and Fly

It was you all along

You came to me on hands and knees,

Said I taught you how to stand.

You curled inside your weakened limbs

As I held your shaking hand.

You looked at me through shrouded eyes,

Afraid to face the day.

I sat with you on a wooden bench,

Until the sun shone on your face

*

You shared with me your broken soul,

Let me gaze inside your heart.

You asked me what I thought of you.

I wasn’t sure where to start.

But let me tell you now, my friend,

I think you’ll be okay.

I saw the strength rise in your eyes

On that oh so fateful day.

*

You thought your world would fall apart,

A loser by design.

But what I saw in you that day

Was a girl with the heart of a lion.

What had come and what had gone

Was never meant to be.

But what’s to come lies in the song

Your heart is meant to sing.

*

So, pick yourself up and dance along

The path I know you’ll lead.

And don’t dare worry what anyone thinks,

For you are all you need.

Don’t let others break your spirit

Or demand you tell them why.

Don’t let them hold you back, my friend.

Spread your wings and fly.

What a beautiful inspiring poem. Everyone should have someone see a heart of a lion in them. So many times people let others break their spirits - Spread your wings and fly. What an appropriate ending. Beautifully Done!!!
