Sitting on the kitchen floor at 2:37AM with my overripe bananas
An acrostic poem

So here we are again, wedged
In between our problems and the refrigerator.
Like that crowded bowl of forgotten fruit:
Ever-ripening, bruised, quietly edging towards disposal. Blurry-eyes
Nervously read the family recipe, knowing I don’t have the ingredients.
Can you hear Mama calling on the phone?
Eventually, I’ll pick up. I’ll break the quiet with a lie and say I’m making banana bread.

It's crazy how much is going on in so few words! It's a masterpiece poem that truly deserves TS! congrats!
Melancholy, relatable, very visual, could see you sitting on the floor summoning up the lie 🙂🍌
congrats for TS
Wow 😮
I really did think you were making banana bread at first, so it's a very believable lie 😬
So much in here that i had to read it twice. I love the banana reference it speaks volumes. Congratulations
This is beautiful!! What a great read!
I love the originality here. What a great entry, J.R!
The bruised/ over ripe bananas analogy is too relatable!! Very smart silence to capture here J.R. Belated congrats on Top Story!
Oh J.R.! This was sooooo clever! Belated top story congrats on an acrostic well written!
Oh, I love this!
Wow- this managed to be humorous, melancholy, profound and relatable across all of those dimensions - masterful work, J.! It seems to me a lot of the best poetry uses simple and very specific scenes to reflect on deep undercurrents of thought and emotion; this does that incredibly well. Thanks for sharing this masterpiece, and congrats on a well-deserved Top Story! :)
Outstanding. Congratulations on top story.
Back to say 'congratulations' on the Top Story.
There is something to be said for allowing yourself some grace once in a while. Congrats on the top story and thanks for procrastinating on Vocal.
I’ve lied to myself so many times about overripe bananas and how I will use it for banana bread lol great job 👏
This is so clever!
Congratulations world traveler!!!! Another Top Story. You reach the pinnacle 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

wow, amazing entry to the challenge! Loved this
This is heartbreaking! It gave me such an empty feeling in all the right ways. Fantastic entry!! ✨
What an amazing acrostic. Hiding behind banana bread in order to assure your mom you're just fine. No....tell her you need the comfort that only she can give.
Fabulous entry to the challenge. I loved it, so different and ripely apt (pun). 😍
Oh fantastic, devastating work.
