Silent Film

solid ground gives way like hidden trap doors.

incited by suppressed memories escaping rusted anchor.

livid, is understated, leaving nauseous trails from

extended and looping frames.

neither of my watered eyes can blink this away, yet the gravity

can never leave safety of the tongue. shame will banish

every reel of that sickening film back to the state of how it belongs—unseen...unheard.

Um the silent film, perhaps they should have more of that today. Well done.

This is truly magnificent, Lamar. How did this not place or even reach TS status? That is a crime. Sorry I am so late in reading this. Brilliant writing!

Perhaps I speak too much from my own experience, but this silent film that plays in our head on a loop is like a turbine that energizes and inspires some of us to overcome it and render the world more beautiful, while others will tend to project it out, wanting others only to see the horror, but unwittingly destroying beauty in the process; and often this can be the same individual at different times throughout life. Learning to harness and redirect that energy to better ends is a trial and error process, I suppose. Well-wrought and deeply thought, Lamar!

Silent films were much better than the violence of today - have we evolved or devolved. But hey, progress.

The deep sense of shame in this one is really effective. Excellent take on the challenge ❤️

Hi L-bro - Good new look for such a famous Author getting your ears lowered. I often wonder when I get my daily dose of 'Laurel & Hardy' how it's supposed to be set in the early 20's (vintage crank handle cars and all) and the 1st 'Talkies' were supposed to be from Al Jolson's '27 Jazz Singer..! You do amaze me how many 'Topics' you cover - Put this one in the Can...! j-bro in.l.a.

I like how it’s not spelled out, but the reader can make a guess as to what has happened. The idea of looping is a clever one, as memories that haunt us tend to play over and over. Good luck in the challenge Lamar!

What an amazing piece, Lamar! Incredibly well done. You wrote the heaviness of this so brilliantly! This is a fantastic entry to the challenge, and a winner in my book! ✨🩷

This both deep and deeply sad, Lamar. The shame evoked by the piece is mirrored so strikingly by the image you selected as well. This is first rate poetry, Lamar, fairly brimming with feeling and meaning.
