Salt, they say, has no smell, and so, you tell yourself, this must be something more alive, the breathing of the sea,
That hissing sigh, breath in, breath out, a ruminant lullaby sifting the detritus and the shimmer of the past twelve hours,
Cloaked in eternal ever changing blues and greens and silver glinted greys, flat and undulant, laced and smooth and always, always, vast.
Let the ache of cold subside and leave behind the silken caress of distant shores and hidden depths, of ruin and rot and abiogenesis.
Salt, they say, has no life, but taste it on your lip and tell me you don’t thrum with all the life there will ever be, or has ever been.

Again, delightful.
Beautifully done! I’ve never met the word ‘abiogenesis’ before!🙃
wow! Never dreamed of salt like this before. Great job
amazing
Whatever reminds of the sea is alive, even salt. Everything associated with it reminds of life, color, history, and behavior. It resembles life itself, the ups, the great, the beautiful, and the sweet fading away. Foam, ambrosia, joy together with nostalgia.
This makes me want to be back in the surf so bad. You captured the beauty and essence of the sea so well
As a firm lover of the sea and all it contains and entails, well done on this. This is beautiful, and poetic, and I love the symmetry of sorts between the first and last lines. Just, yeah, you definitely saved one of your best for the last entry. Is that you in the picture?
Stunning! We all came out of the ocean, salt is indeed essential for life.
Outstanding, Hannah! This is something special
I re-read the first and last lines many times 😁
Wonderful. I love the sea too.
Oooo, I learned a new word from you today, abiogenesis! Loved your poem!
A poignant exploration of existence, memory, and the elemental power of nature. Love it! 💌
Simply amazing how you evoked the living seas in this wondrous poem, Hannah! Exceptional challenge entry!
Literally left me licking my lips and craving salt... 😅
I feel I could taste the salty sea on my lips (which is quite an achievement as I’m literally landlocked in the middle of the US) - this is absolutely stunning.
This is beautifu, and so perfectly descriptive of the place. I can care what they say, I swear I can smell the salty sea.
Wow, this is lovely. So beautiful.
So wonderfully written, your words floww like the waves themselves
Eloquently and elegantly described!
