Migraine

Sensational II challenge

By Hannah MoorePublished about a year ago 1 min read

Clamorous, the colours jar, spar and tumble, and each border between them makes my head crumble, and each movement I see with my gut.

I hear with an ear at the top of my spine, and noise bursts on out till it renders me blind, and each nerve fires sharp in the glut.

The smells, oh the smells! Dogs smell this well, and each goddamn smell clangs like a bell, all jive dancing swagger and strut.

Each brush of my skin is a din so alarming I’m certain the touch must surely be harming and I’ll look down and see that I’m cut.

There is dung, on my tongue, and I can taste in this faeces, the dead of the world, of every species, their filth and their grime and their smut.

Thinking of my mum and how I used to have to give her neck a massage because she had one. Excellent descriptive, Hannah.

What a perfectly vivid view of a horrendous migraine - I understand this poem all too well. Congratulations on placing with an Honorable Mention on this week's leaderboard for Most Discussed Stories with this one - I don't know how I missed it originally.

This captures the utter unbearableness with all the unpleasant sensations

Ah...I've never had migraines, though I know of them, but like Shirley said, this also feels like it could be applied to sensory overload, too. Really well done. That final line is particularly startling and gross. Also, look after your hands :) with kindness and love.

My migraines always start with the visual effects, and you described them perfectly. I've found that if I medicate as soon as I notice them, I can avoid most of the other effects. Well done!

I am familiar with this feeling, but thankfully not for a while. it sucks and It's everything all at once. Great job, and I'm hoping you don't have one.

As someone who suffers from migraines, I can completely relate to this poem, especially the stomach and headache symptoms that you have captured so beautifully and torturously well here. Fantastic job.
