Out Of Clay
The Shape of Our Love
From the first time we touched, I knew
We were made from the same clay
God shaped your perfection, filled you with a breath
Of compassion and brilliance
From the leftovers, you formed a partner
Molded me for a perfect fit
As if we were still of one piece
With a kiss, you shared your breath of life
Stoked the fire of my heart in your kiln
-
When we are laid back in the earth
They will try to plant marble, but we will grow a tree
Deep roots will cradle us, while we feed it our love
Branches will reach out to gather beasts of the ground, birds of the air
Provide sustenance and shelter, as you did for me
And should Man need to be shaped anew
God will walk by our tree and leave our clay to rest
For what our love has made perfect
Let no God tear asunder

Adam and Eve described to a T. Congrats on the top story, Sean, so well-deserved!!
Gosh, this was beautiful! Congrats on the Top Story! Very well deserved.
Well-wrought! That final lines have all the best qualities of a prayer.
That's a really powerful and moving poem of enduring love! The line about growing a tree instead of planting marble is such a strong image, it shows your connection is so alive it overcomes anything cold or permanent. It's beautiful how you connect your lives to the earth and a shared future. Congratulations on getting Top Story!
My word, what a pleasing surprise of a poem! One of my favourite lines... "When we are laid back in the earth They will try to plant marble, but we will grow a tree." And God bless walking past that tree "leaving your clay to rest" and the reason... Hooooo!!! This is a beauty! Glad it was featured!
Back to say congratulations on your Top Story! ππππππ

Congratulations, Sean Beautiful piece to get a top story for
Top Story!
brilliant piece of writing Sean!
Really gorgeous, Sean! Very well written. At once private and a declaration, a difficult balance to strike. Love the Genesis references too.
Finally! Well done on a deserved Top Story!
ππ½ππ½ππ½ Truly well done. The first two lines really set the stage!
sincerely beautiful!
This was so beautiful. And it reminded me of Eren and Mikasa from Attack on Titan. Loved your poem!
Romantic with Adam and Eve there, Sean.
This is so lovely βΊ
I love the idea of god walking past to grant rest...beautiful
Oh man. This is up there with your very best! I love how reverential this is and how romantic without being saccharine or losing it's artist merit. Love the whole metaphor and scriptural reference point. This will be a Top Story soon enough. Well done, Sean
