No ‘Tea Party’
Tea: Wonderland Poetry Prompt Challenge Day 1
Pint-sized athletes exuberantly
run
fast and free
twisting turning…
sometimes
tripping.
*
Glossy green-leafed Camellia bushes
grow
shoulder to shoulder
melding
into mazes
meandering
across many acres
of Topaz’s Nerada Tea Plantation.
*
call it ‘home’
By day, they
snooze,
don’t
roam…
oblivious of the action…
this annual race.
They were up all night
foraging fruit, nibbling leaves, leaping between rainforest trees.
*
Panting runners
press on
up hill and down slippery declines
oblivious of the shrubs
brushing
pumping legs and arms.
*
Cheering families
urge
exhausted runners into the ‘Finish Shute’.
Sweat trickles
between brows, down legs so wobbly.
Victory!
*
Muffled megaphone announcements
accompany
chaotic cheers
car doors
thud ‘Farewell’…
until next year.
*
Tomorrow’s tale
unfolds
in typical fashion …
tender buds and leaves
embark
on their own journey.
*
Rust red mechanical ‘monsters’
graze, pick
luscious leaves and beautiful buds
to cut, tear, curl, ferment and dry
all in a day’s work.
*
Relax, recline, refresh!
Sip
a cup of steaming Nerada Tea.
*
Author’s note: Inspired by inter-school cross country competitions held at a Nerada Tea plantation.

Love that your participating in Ellie's challenge, Angie! You have such skill in whimsical writing and I love seeing where you take these prompts!
Such a cool and unique take on the prompt that transforms Tea into a full experience - you can live in the words along with the writer here. Loved it!
Oooo, that sounds sooo fun! Loved your take on the prompt!
This was a great evocation of that park run, Angie. I was there!
How cool! Running through a tree plantation sounds cool to me. I imagine it was torture for you if by then you already loathed tea. 😁 Why do you loathe so much?
What a wonderful take on the prompt, Angie. Brought back memories of when I did cross-country running at school, except we didn't have the luxury of running through a tea plantation.
