Introduction

This is for ViM's June Prompt, which you can find out about here.

I have decided to write a villanelle for this.

The music is "Nessun Dorma" by The Three Tenors

No Lady Or Man Shall Ever Sleep In The Month Of June

Fragile Beauty Will Never Slumber, For Terrible Fear

Evil Demons Come From The Secret Places Of The Moon

It's Said Sleep Is Only A Preview Of Death In Your Tomb

But Dreams Turn To Nightmares As Those Demons Your Flesh Do Tear

No Lady Or Man Shall Ever Sleep In The Month Of June

In The Darkness Of Closed Eyes, In The Silence Of Your Room

Your Nightmares Come Pale Sheeted Ghosts, With Countenance Severe

Evil Demons Come From The Secret Places Of The Moon

The Raven Tapping At Your Window, Comes Too Soon

Dripping Water From The Leaking Roof Leaves An Awful Smear

No Lady Or Man Shall Ever Sleep In The Month Of June

In This Hellish Darkness, See A Black Devilish Rose Bloom

For You, The Sleeper, There Is No Calm And Silent Sleep Here

Evil Demons Come From The Secret Places Of The Moon

Now Is The Moment That You See Your Fate To Make You Swoon

As The Devils Come Now, You Know Your End Is Drawing Near

No Lady Or Man Shall Ever Sleep In The Month Of June

Evil Demons Come From The Secret Places Of The Moon

Cleverly done… I’ve never been brave enough to attempt a Villanelle!πŸ˜΅β€πŸ’« I have another reason to embrace this line: β€œ No Lady Or Man Shall Ever Sleep In The Month Of June”… it’s my birth month & I see no reason to miss a moment!πŸ™ƒ

  • I found this to be a fit bit of found poetry ala Edgar's "Sleeper".

Nicely done, the villanelle was a perfect choice for this.

  • Ooh! Spooky one! You have made the villianelle haunt, Mike.

The mood is surely Poe-inspired; great use of the poem's words!
