It Takes But One Moment

A poem and a Roy Orbison song

By Rasma RaistersPublished 3 months ago 1 min read

It takes but one moment

and life can turn around,

take our dreams

and bring them crashing to the ground.

It takes but one moment

and we might think differently -

looking back over the years.

Did you ever think

that childhood would be here gone tomorrow?

Where did the hours go

that were spent in playtime dreams?

Was it the fairy tales or lullabies

that made it drift by so quickly?

When we have it all before us,

we never think of tomorrow,

are never prepared for any sorrow.

Because tomorrows,

are never promised to anyone

and the words of love,

we want to say –

we have to say today.

We only think of how it is here and now,

then before we know it,

a new day has begun

and things are no longer the same.

Where did our yesterday’s dreams go?

If we could only hold on to the moments,

we so treasure -

for just a little bit longer.

Would it make life’s journey easier

if we could hold on to them?

We don’t want to let go too soon

or perhaps that’s what life is all about,

we could complain and shout,

but then one day we realize –

more good times are just around the bend.

Perhaps we have no control,

for that we have our memories,

so that we can revisit those moments -

time and time again.

It takes but one moment,

to fall in love,

but a lifetime,

to keep that love true.

So when someone says,

your dreams can only be realized,

when pigs fly through the skies,

tell them you’re holding tight,

to the string of your kite

and it takes but one moment –

for our dreams to become reality.
