I am, uncomfortable, concerned, and unnerved
I am angry, and uncertain by the things that I have observed
I live in the land of the free and home of the brave
Where no man should be held down and no man a slave
Innocent until we are proven guilty, so they say
Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, free to work, free to play
Raised in the color-blind decade, where all were “equal”
But I am not seeing these principles in that era’s sequel.
I have served all men with my own blood sweat and tears
But now I see that some of them have hearts full of fears.
Is the soul of man so entirely full of such hate?
That the color of our skin should determine our fate?
My faith declares that all men before God are a treasure
And that in our diversity Jehovah finds pleasure.
I am no longer color-blind for I am a patron of the arts
Though I judge a man not by his outward appearance but by his heart.
Evil cannot triumph, and we must not be kept silent
We must stand up and defend the innocent from those who are violent.
Red and yellow, black and white they are precious in God’s sight
Now is the time to take bold action, now we must stand for the right.
In prayer, and in deed, day in and day out, never should we grow so complacent again
That we should look the other way when evil stands to triumph over innocent men
May Yahweh give us the favor and the strength to bring this to pass
That all men may finally say Free at last, Free at last, Thank God Almighty I am free at Last.
