For a Poet Laureate

50 words too little

If your love for me was made of stars,

I'd have ten galaxies to my name and counting.

If your love for me was an ocean,

It would be unending and unfathomable.

You give me everything and ask for nothing but my smile.

You are the reason I carry on.

Author's Note

An entry for the 50 word Love poem challenge written in honour of a very dear friend whose strength, kindness and bottomless capacity to care for me I will never be able to wholly understand or repay. You set the bar high for whatever prince finally shows up, and if he doesn't, I'll still die knowing that to one person, I was their idea of perfection worth cherishing. It should be your dad that makes you feel that way. I was not so lucky in childhood but I am now. Love comes in so many forms and without labels. Thank you for loving me.

Beautiful poem! I love the extravagance and abundance of the love captured in these lines, not in a material sense but just the undeniable fullness of it that you've experienced thanks to this wonderful friend!
