The Gentlest of Sweet Pains

An entry for Frosted Verse

Summer's sorrow and winter's treasure,

You are the catalyst of change.

The stoic exhale of autumn,

Come to kiss our petals again.

*

Ever you admire our colourful splendor,

And you weep that we must die;

But the silence of death becomes us,

Frozen innocence in our shrouded bouquet.

*

Your fingers trail every line,

Outlining all you brush.

You remind the animals to hurry;

You are the nudge to stay safe and warm.

*

Before the embrace of darkness,

Of slumber,

Of the end,

Your touch is the gentlest of sweet pains.

*

And as we lull ourselves into winter's oblivion,

We remember we will see you soon.

When winter is done, you will paint us again,

And spring will inhale to summer's relief.

*

Frost, know that you are seen,

Know that we, the flowers, understand.

And for time's eternity please caress us again,

And again.

*
