Endangered Love

An Abecedarian Poem

Abstract Visions of endless possibility

Beauty found in the darkest of places

Condescending tones of silk and sandpaper

Drowning me with your proud, stained tongue.

Evaporated hopes gone up in smoke

Forged in tasteless memories

Given to me in my weakest moments

Happily soaked in my eager wishes.

Intrigued no less by your empty promises

Justified by your arrogance

Kept safe by my all too trusting heart,

Left wounded and exposed.

Matched by the flame of what dreams seemed, at the time, to be a budding comfort,

Nothing more now than a false hope for a forbidden reality

Opposing morals intertwined into a gut punch of toxic connection.

Promiscuous and taboo thoughts reigning the nights mind

Queen is what you called me,

Royalty in the eyes of men

Succumbed to your vile vices.

Touching skin to skin, piercing my aching, needy soul,

Under your spell, unable to say no

Visceral vulnerability, total control

Withholding affection to sustain your ego.

Xenacious undertones overpower my vulnerable core,

Yielding only when I see the truth in the lie

Zestful cycle of a future unsure.

Goodness, this was so moving, great entry. Your “W” line felt so relatable, it’s a terrible thing. Thanks for sharing Tressa!

  • Such an emotional entry. I especially enjoyed the line “Opposing morals intertwined into a gut punch of toxic connection.” I could practically feel the gut punch in that line. Great job.
