I crushed my smoke out on the pavement outside the apartment complex before rubbing my eyes deeply and hauling myself off the curb and onto my feet. Two days in a row now I had shown up at Joeys, 7:30 AM so we could walk over to Sal’s shop and start our shift by 8:00. He was normally waiting for me, bright eyed and ready to go, guy loved working on cars all day while I just did it to pay for rent and cigarettes. It’s not the worst job I’ve ever had, but the jeep with two broken cv axels and a cracked transfer case was going to take me most of the day, and I’ve never liked an all-day project.

In the world we reside in there is no shortage of systems that don’t operate correctly or even that well at all. From household items and the lives we’ve cultivated all the way to the systems that govern us its like shooting fish in a barrel to ask someone what they think is being done incorrectly or poorly within society.

The Amber Spires: Part Two
I sat on a small rickety stool outside the wide oak door that led into the dull interior of the taskmasters’ quarters, this was becoming a far too familiar scenario. Two weeks ago, it was a brawl outside an abandoned fuel station over a case of expired cans of vegetables that got overlooked during the last rounds of looting and rioting, and the week before that a precinct six blocks over burnt to the ground. Quelling riots before they ever happened became our duty, weather it was some strategy come down from the brains up top or the fight in the people had just died out none of us knew.

The Amber Spires: Part One
I found the devil in the guts of the Amber Spires, more than two decades ago now, down in the filthy rubble that made up the outer rings of shacks and hovels posted up high above the filth ways. The spires are long gone now, pulverized by the Hulcans when they pushed north, but back when I was a boy they were something special. Great big towers that shot into the heavens and cast their light into the smog clouds that enveloped the concrete apartments around them, what we would have given to step one foot through those doors. It was like looking at the gates of heaven.

Revolver Theory. Top Story - January 2026.
With the technological advancements seen in any given field over the last few decades I often question why certain things still exist. For the average citizen of course, places like hospitals and engineering firms are constantly phasing older tech out to bring in the best possible equipment available. What I find most surprising is not only are things like revolvers and carburetors are still widely loved, but the fact they are still being mass produced.
