It broke
that moment when you were washing the glass
a random crack
accidental knock against the unseen
and it broke
pieces strewn about dirty dishes
cautious enough to pick up the shards
yet with a concern that they may wound
moments before
a glass full
holding within it hopes, dreams
the taste of an eternity on it’s rim
a vessel accommodating
quenching a thirst for a wish so pure
nourished by the most honest of intentions
and it broke
an invisible fragility set the course
negligence
difficult to detect in the wrong light
the glass, once strong
bound by integrity
shattered by disregard
compounded by time
and it broke
fragments forever torn apart
by careless distraction
apathetic dispositions
built over a lifetime
broken
forever ruptured by indifference
