Different Lenses
A Poem on Differing Perspectives
We wear different lenses, you and I,
Shaping our views of the world
Of each other
Of ourselves
*
Where you see monsters,
I see a rose-tinted landscape;
Where I see shadows dancing among the muck,
You see flowers blossoming in springtime
*
I have tried to wear your lenses
To see what you have seen
But all I see are murky shapes—
Blobs and light where clarity should be
*
Perhaps these lenses are crafted only for us
Perhaps they’ve been smudged and cracked beyond repair
And we just don’t notice anymore
Perhaps our sight is all in our mind
*
Your lenses are yours, my lenses are mine
Unique to each of us for whatever reason
And I won’t force you to try mine on
Anymore

Beautifully crafted. All of us have different perspectives, and shouldn't force each on the other.
I love the way you used the glasses comparison.
Oh!! I love the opposing POV's but also that they don't necessarily clash!! This was very clever Stephanie! Nicely done!!
I think I could only see from someone else's lenses if their view is not too far different from mine. When one can only see from the left eye, and the other, only from the right, the peripheral vision is distorted for both. Sadly, if they both were willing to share glasses, they may see the whole picture. Alas, most of us are not. Love your poem. Sorry for the rant.
Ooh, no, I can't stop trying to swap lenses!
Something a little sad about this one, a sense of giving up? 😔
