Fog

silently

enveloped the

neglected cottage

in a wispy white shroud.

She stepped warily

through The Door,

bewildered

rudderless.

Help!

she begged.

Her plea pierced the evening’s

white-washed canvas.

H e l p !

H e l p ! H e l p !

H e l p !

The

anguished

echo

rippled

around

the void.

Wraith-like

slowly swaying

she turned as pale as

the faded cotton curtains

fluttering, stuttering in the

gaping windows watching

the hapless soul slump

in an untidy heap

at the foot of

the stairs.

Her

feeble

heartbeat

the sole sign

of life in the expanse

of white on white

on white as

everything

turned midnight

black...

for her.
