a young woman stands

alone but shameless, integrity in tact but with knives as hands

she’s carved herself into oblivion

and somewhere near, a person, maybe herself

felt hatred, felt red

felt the need to lie with miserable dread

about hearsay;

they pass quickly and differently

like rugged, changing blue waves

and soon naïve ears

hear of this troubling black and white

they are good or bad, never grey

and the glowing yellow sun sinks in sorrow

where a young woman stands green with humiliation

she feels alone, more than ever

but now the paint of rumors stains her skin

yet over time

her reflective tears soon allow the colors to sink

a sculpture of humility, acceptance

a rainbow of growth

now remains as inspiring ink

salty water coats her cheeks

polishing the art of her adolescence, and God-

the colors shine through

bright and young and screaming to her-

these colors are You.
