Scattered there
Around your feet
Tiny limbs and fractured grins
Hearts in splinters
Hopes dashed among the rocks
Broken things
Paltry things
Those broken toys around you lying
Sightless eyes your fear belying
Torn asunder
Cast aside
Thrown out on an ebbing tide
Far from you
You thought them sent
Too far to hear
Their sad lament

I appreciate the rhyming of this one, and that last line is **chef's kiss** 😁
Ah, I'm glad Shaun highlighted this at Raise Your Voice. This is beautifully sad, Alex. Makes me think similar to Donna - lost childhood and having to grow up too quickly. Love the brevity you use on each line, allows your powerful words to really breathe! Remarkable work, sir!
This feels like a metaphor for a lost childhood/ being made to grow up too quickly. So beautiful and heartbreaking!
Oh my, this was so devastatingly heartbreaking! You've so brilliantly used and arranged your words in such a way that it evoked strong emotions! Well done Alex!
Methinks a metaphor lies within. A beautifully sad piece, Alexander!
That…was a little heartbreaking. Well done
well written
A highly emotionally charged poem that surely brings to the surface painful memories of the past. Time passes, and each bitter memory is forgotten or, better yet, confronted with more contemplation.
