Eternity
A sappy poem

If today could last forever,
I’d hold it in my hand,
To keep at heart, without fear of reprimand.
If today could last forever,
I’d watch it on repeat,
Just to see the perfect time
When we can finally meet.
If today could last forever,
I’d live it every night,
Sitting with you by firelight,
Watching in case we might,
See a falling star on which to tie a dream,
As we hold each other tight,
Far away from what we have to fight,
When surrounded by city’s lights.
If today could last forever,
I’d keep it close by me,
With nowhere I’d rather be,
Then by the lakeside,
Where we’ve all the time to bide,
Under a starry sky that’s oh so wide,
A million memories to make,
A thousand chances to take,
If only today could last forever.
I’d spend it all with you.
Nowhere I’d rather be,
Nothing I’d rather do,
Then have you side by side with me,
Arm in arm,
Or hand in hand,
Misty mornings,
And clear cool nights,
I’d live them all,
And hold the quiet moments always,
In my heart of hearts,
If only we could make today last forever.

This poem is dedicated to my Ottawa friends. With whom I’d happily share this time, if we could make today last forever. 💖

"See a falling star on which to tie a dream" That line was my favourite! Your poem was full of relatable emotions and so beautifully written!

An enjoyable read!
Nothing sappy about this, sir! Genuine, heartfelt and with a gorgeous timeless quality. Loved it a whole lot and if only we could make those key moments just last forever. Life would definitely be less bad. Well done, Alex.
That's really sweet, Alexander.
