Born of the dark

Felt "lost-ish" (for unofficial challenge)

Top Story - January 2025

Ever I sought to be the good, the kind, the loving

but I was born of the dark

forced to sleep in the cradle of despair

suckled on the bosom of lust

weaned on moral turpitude.

What chance was there for me in this world?

'twas the unkind hand that pressed me down

'twas whispered words of deceit that filled my ear

I longed for the light that was hidden from me

prayed for forgiveness that was never to be

so here I linger

here I wait

watching

hoping

for

an angel to take pity

to raise my soul

to the heavens

longing to be a lover

gazing upon the stars at night

believing their light shines for us.

No,

all I feel is the fire

fanning the flames

of hate

forever

inhaling sulphuric fumes

of lies

forever

accepting my fate

knowing others live by the grace of God

walking in the brightness of the divine

and live a life worth living.

What choice have I

it was never mine

for

I was born of the dark.

Wonderful story, bringing attention to an all to prevalent problem. - The Homeless and the desperate. We see it even in the colonial town of Dover, Delaware on each and every corner. We never saw anything like it, but now we do. Well Deserved top story. I gave out Wendy's gift cards to the homeless in my son's memory for Christmas. Nicely Done!!!

Well-wrought and a well-deserved top story! Though we are largely what we are conditioned to be, this only applies until we realize we have been conditioned. I surmise this to be the point from which we can make the greatest and most benificial changes... but it takes time and effort! May our hearts be pure and our paths true!

This is genuinely soul-touching work, Jason; such a deserving Top Story, and I'm honored that such a piece would be entered in my challenge! Thank you for sharing and entering this beautiful poem. You really capture the heart of a weary, long-lost wanderer.

The thought of accepting that you're on your own while others get to rely on a helping hand is conflicting. No less, this was a deep message and it's genuine in terms of being a hard pill to swallow.

Congratulations on your top story, JBaz! Thought-provoking poetry and Judey says it best: "We are already everything and we don't believe it."

How dare we ask to be more? Audacity! The deceit is we are already everything and we don’t believe it.
