Accustomed

And Customs

By Kelli Sheckler-AmsdenPublished about a year ago Updated about a year ago 1 min read

This season can catch me by surprise

As tinsel tears fill up my eyes

Unwrapping thoughts of past goodbyes

Adorning the tree with ties that bind

I’ve grown accustomed to it now

Like breathing in and breathing out

Memories that time forgets

Put out like a cigarette

Poured everything that made me smile

Into someone who stole my pride

Changing the way I saw my life

While stars light up the midnight sky

Some hearts were made to be alone

Some silent numbers on my phone

The moon still pulls hope, magically

Restoring the fire inside of me

The tides of life still ebb and flow

Healing the heart and letting go

The holidays stir spirits around

Reflecting shadows on the ground

Cause time reveals the truths denied

Into the quiet, silent night

Absolutely Beautiful. The holidays stir feeling around- Reflecting shadows on the ground. Holidays bring back memories that make us sad and happy. Nicely written. - Well done!!!

  • Sadly beautiful. Holidays can bring out the best of memories and the worst.

The imagery of memories, loss, and hope intertwined with the sights and sounds of the festive period is deeply moving.
