A Spring in my Step…

A happy little poem

Like a lamb set free

my heart leaps!

Arms open

W I D E

I embrace

Spring!

*

My back turns against

Winter

It’s l o n g grip broken.

“Good Riddance!”

to grim gales that

cut to the bone.

*

Watery darts

flung from gloomy firmaments

Icy marbles

hurled onto defenceless skeletal shrubs

Heartless hail

ricocheting on frost bitten earth.

*

Spring

summons

a shy

Sun

“Come out and play!

Chase those woeful winter ills away.”

*

Happy to help

sick of being sidelined many months

The Sun

flips a switch

bathes my world in

wonderful warm rays.

*

Soon

I shed scarf, beanie and coat

Birds warble; buds burst forth from

bare branches

Jasmine w a f t s on

benevolent breezes.

*

Plover parents

patiently

guard vulnerable eggs

Foolishly Habitually

laid on a

tiny traffic island.

*

Swamped by an

ocean of school car parking

Vicious vehicles and sticky beak students

‘Sharks’ circle,

Ravenous

for a tasty morsel…

*

Diligent ‘plover patrol’ is

duly rewarded…

Yesterday,

the Proud Parents

shepherded two gangly chicks

To ‘tranquil waters’.

*

Spring’s here!

Heralding holidays!

I breathe a

sigh of relief.

It’s time to

Relax, Rejoice and Rejuvenate.

*

Inspired by nesting Masked Lapwing Plovers and the welcome arrival of Australian Spring holidays.

I had no idea that bird existed Angie! Thank you for introducing me to it! How fascinating! You captured their behaviour so well in this poem!

Summer is still hanging on tight where I am and I'm wishing for fall while you are experiencing the birth of spring. I love that this world is so interesting and different. Great job!

Here I am, at the end of the summer, with the sun still out and pleasant temperature, reading this poem and missing the spring already. Well done, Angie!

Literally a world away. Grey autumnal drizzle here, not even mist or mellow fruitfulness to redeem it. Got room for a visitor? :-)

  • Hehehehehehe I'm so happy to see that you're happy! Loved your poem!

Lovely Angie. Such a happy expression of the changing seasons that expresses the change of season, and I am sure many appreciate. It bounces along really nicely.

  • Particularly enjoyed the "shy sun"--the feeling of warmth building. Lovely personification, Angie.
